"It's difficult to summarize fifty years in a few words...I guess I peaked early, having won my last serious competitive election for public office at George School- more than fifty years ago. .. Off to college- pursuing a variety of majors and then, seemingly more focused,on to graduate school for a Ph.D.; the latter entailed overseas research in East Africa, where I celebrated Kenya's independence in 1963...In the meantime, I married Ann in 1961- a wonderful woman; independent, intellectual, energetic and committed- to whom I am still married.  With the dissertation almost completed I accepted an appointment at what would become San Diego State University.  Our first of three children, daugher and two sons, was born just about the time the degree was awarded...I was insturmental in establishing at SDSU an inter-disciplinary major in International Security and Conflict Resolution which, both significantly and regrettably, anticipated the changing world politics which provide such a sobering global context for our  fifieth...Unexpectedly, I got hooked on bicycling in the mid-1980's and have biked in Bhutan, Cuba, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe and I biked from San Diego to Yorktown, VA.... I 've been fortunate to travel widely- beginning with my first overseas trip with George School's 1953 Workcamp in Bonn, Germany.  Since then we've lived, studied and worked in London , Cairo and Shanghai and visited some fifty other countries and workshops, tourism or both...Recently retired, I am now exploring black and white photography through a wonderful program in a local community college.  As satisfying and challenging as the program is, it takes a second to time spent with children and, yea, our three grandchildren; a grandson and two granddaughters... I'm ambivlent as to whether I'm an underachiever or an overachiever; regardless, I thank George School at that critical time in high school for helping to show me a path on which I might begin travel for the next fifty years- and beyond."

"After GS. Kansas U-finally played Wilt Chamberlain.  Naval Aviator-4 years. Dental School-Univ. of Illinois.  Picked up a great wife along the way- Cicely (Cissie).  She had 2 choices: 1) live in Kansas, sod hut provided or 2) back to the Navy.  There was only one choice- 26 years of the Navy, including an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Univ. of Alabama Medical Center.  Once again, my wonderful wife Cissie provided us with three great children- David, Will and Catie.  Retired from the Navy in '83- private practice in Raleigh, NC for 19 yrs-including 10 yrs Asst. Prof at UNC School of Dentistry.  Retired June 2002.
Life is good, Getting old really sucks.  Looking forward to seeing many of you in a few days."

" When I visited George School in 1997 for the first time and then again in 1999 since my stay there in 1952/53, I was impressed that the school has kept its high standard. The current teachers seemed to be as sophisticated and the students as nice and well educated as they were when I attended the school as German exchange student in my junior year."
"In the summer of 1953, coming from a country that suffered greatly from World War II, it meant so much to me to receive such a friendly and open welcome and to be thoughtfully taken care of."
"I am happy that I can take part in the 50th reunion of my 'Class of 54' and I am looking forward to seeing many of my former class mates and our class adviser Miss. Hess.  George School has taught me many valuable insights which were important to my professional and family life.  I am remembering the opportunity that was given to me to be part of the George School community with deep gratitude."
" Often I am telling my three children about my experiences during my time in the USA.  This might be the reason that today two of them are living here.  Perhaps it is possible that some day one of my grandchildren will become a student of George School"
