Victorian Society in America ~
Philadelphia Chapter
The Victorian Society in America is your window to the 19th Century.  It has become the leading organization about the study, appreciation, and preservation of America's 19th Century heritage.  It is the only national non-profit organization committed to historic preservation, protection, understanding, education, and enjoyment of our 19th Century heritage.

The Philadelphia Chapter, on a local basis, carries out the aims and objectives of the National organization.  Currently the chapter has approximately 300 members from all walks of life.  An extraordinarily active chapter, established in 1972, the Philadelphia Chapter endeavors to have at least one monthly event during the fall, winter and spring.

There is a vast treasure trove of Victoriana within Philadelphia and its environs, and our Chapter takes advantage of these and other opportunities:

~ Visits to 19th Century house museums and gardens
~ Exclusive tours of private Victorian homes
~ Lectures on Victorian customs, food, literature, costumes and architecture
~ Seminars on the restoration of Victorian homes
~ Field trips to out-of-town Victorian sites such as Jim Thorpe, PA; Edison Labortories in Menlo Park, NJ; and visits to the towns of Ocean Grove and Cape May, NJ

In addition, the Chapter has been in the forefront of lobbying efforts to save 19th Century buildings in Philadelphia and its suburbs.

Annual Chapter events include Queen Victoria's birthday party in May, the annual meeting in October which combines business with a lively social hour and buffet dinner and a traditional Victorian Christmas party in December.
