Dragon Magick
In the post-Arthurian,neo-pagan world we live in today we know of the Dragons as spirit or celestial guardians that manifest in a variety of ways. The most common of these is the fire Dragons that are present in all Bale fires and in most fires in general.
It is not unusual to here of a Dragon Majik practitioner talk of their personal Dragon Guardian. But no matter where you go or who you talk to Dragons are revered as mighty and genius in intelligence.
There are many types of Dragons and we will, hopefully, cover most if not all of them in this section. The following is a comprehensive list of the Dragons we will be studying:
Dragons of the elements:
Sairys (sair’-iss) Elemental Dragon of Air governs the eastern quarter of the circle and oversees the Dragons of the breezes and winds. Its color is pure yellow: it is considered warm and moist.
Fafnir (faf’ -near) Elemental Dragon of Fire governs the southern quarter of the circle and oversees the Dragons of fire and sunbeams. Its color is pure red; it is considered warm and dry.
Naelyan (lail’ -yon) Elemental Dragon of Water governs the western quarter of the circle and oversees Dragons of the sea, springs, lakes and ponds. Its color is pure blue; it is considered cold and moist.
Grael (grail) Elemental Dragon of the Earth governs the northern quarter of the circle and oversees Dragons of mountains, land, minerals, gems and moonbeams. Its color is pure clear, dark green; it is considered cold and dry.
The White and Black (light and dark) Dragons govern the centre of the circle and keep all the other elements balanced.
These are just the five main Dragons. There are as many Dragons in the world as we have things to give thanks for. There are Dragons for all Twelve Zodiac symbols, and a Dragon for all the planets and moon and sun. So we will have a lot to cover.
The next thing to learn about is the tools you will need to work your Dragon Majik. The tools are mostly the same tools you use now but attuned to Dragons.
The tools are:
An altar, a black candle, a white candle, incense burner, a sword, a double- edged dagger,(both of which should be named) a wand, a staff, two chalices, a small lidded jar, a metal bowl with lid, small bottles, a pentacle disc, a mirror, a small gong, and last but not least pictures or symbols of dragons
You should also put a lot of thought into the clothing you wear. Find a Robe that you like and that fits you well. Tie the waist with a silver or gold cord and adorn the robe with pictures or symbols of Dragons.
Now you have the tools and proper clothing, lets get to work…
So how does one go about finding dragons? You begin by learning as much about dragons and their majikal habits as possible. Then you look for your reason for wishing to practice dragon majik with an objective and critical eye. When you feel comfortable with these steps, and only then, you begin building an atmosphere that will attract dragons. You perform certain actions that arouse their curiosity and will draw them to your vicinity. You beam a mental welcome, setting aside time and place to communicate with them on the astral level through mental visualization and speech. And you have to believe they exist, even if you cannot see them with your physical eyes or prove their existence to someone else.
Mentally invite the dragons to make their presence known by thought or deed. Be sensitive and extra aware of what is occurring around you. Most dragons tend to be subtle in their first contacts with humans. They may choose to make an appearance in dreams or as flashes of movement seen in the peripheral vision. They may even forego these types of appearance to simply touch your psychic “feelings”.
Guardian dragons, the easiest to contact, often appear as little voices or faces and forms in the mind. Dragons may show up unannounced at any time, but especially during meditation or majikal rituals, either singly or several at a time. They love the power flow of ritual and will make an appearance just to bathe in the energy. They may well have been there all the time; you just did not notice them. Since dragons are masters at concealment this is not surprising.
You have to be willing to practice a great deal of patience, self-control, and self-discipline, learning to work within a specific set of majikal laws in order to consistently attract and elicit the help of dragons. As with all majikal procedures, nothing is cast in concrete, but there are certain aspects of these procedures, which cannot be eliminated or changed to any great extent without disturbing the flow of majikal power.
Not all dragons are of positive majik. I dislike using the words “good” or “evil” because negative power is just as important to the existence of life as is positive power. Negative energies have nothing to do with evil, unless you have evil thoughts and intentions within yourself.
Your attitude toward the existence of dragons must be the first big step in preparation for meeting them. The power of dragons is a tremendous force, amplifying the majicians ability to new heights.
A true, knowledge-seeking majician weighs all possibilities for use in majik, keeping what feels right to them and discarding the rest. Dragon majik is not for all. Dragon majik is only for the self-disciplined seeker, who realizes the potential dangers, yet dares to communicate with and befriend this vast astral power of the ages. It is for the majician who is serious about changing their life and the living space around them. It is an asset for those who can give trust (not blindly, but with common sense), love, and a desire for true friendship.
Like the old mapmakers who wrote, “here be dragons” on the unknown edges of their maps, I wish you a safe journey into dragon country. Go prepared for a fantastic voyage on which you can make new friends and majik-working partners, and you will be pleasantly surprised at the knowledge you will learn. Dance with the dragons in their endless round of energy, and feel all areas of your life lifted into new, powerful realms. |
