Squid The term squid is used to describe a style of riding. The style of riding is related to the sea creature's style of swimming. The sea creature can be seen taking off quickly in a straight line. When the squid comes to a turn they will come to almost a complete stop, turn their bodies, then take off quickly again. Much like the sea creature a "squid" rider will blast off on a straight road as fast as they can go. When they come to a corner they will slow down to a very inconvenient speed. The "squid" rider will do this until the turn is done and when the road straightens out they will blast off again. The term "Squid" is commonly used to describe riders that are irresponsible and pose a danger to others. Squid Marks The marks left by squid riders when they do not notice a turn in time. CTD - Crash test dummy - A rider that will put themselves in danger by doing idiotic things or wearing gear that is not suitable for riding. Poser A rider that will act or speak like they are the greatest and show nothing to prove it. A rider that will dress his/her bike up with racing parts and ride their bikes like cruisers. Cage A cage is another name for a car. The name comes from what the car is designed like. They are designed as a box with frame and subframe around them, ie; cage. Apex An apex is the middle of a turn. The apex is examined in a turn while racing. The rider tries to start on the outside of a turn and then ride the inside right at the apex. Doing this allows for the straightest line to be taken in a turn. Alot of turns have what is called a double apex. The double apex is seen when the turn has a decreasing or increasing radius. Power Band The RPM range in which the engine creates the peak of its horsepower and torque range. "Drag-a-Knee" 1. Track Day 2. Just go for a ride and find some twisties. 3. The SBW equivalent to "Break-a-Leg" Stunts/Tricks/Crashes ---- Stoppie A stoppie is a performed by applying the front brake and having the rear wheel come off the ground. The stoppie can also be done while the bike is still rolling. The following is refered to as a "rolling stoppie". Wheelies Wheelies are performed by applying throttle and causing the front end to rise off the ground. The term wheelie can be modified to desribe the different styles of wheelies. A common one is "stand-up wheelie". This is done when the rider stands on the pegs and brings the bike straight up. Burnouts The burnout is performed by holding the front brake and giving throttle. A burnout occurs when the rear wheel brakes traction and begins to spin. The tire heats up and begins to produce smoke. ie. Burnout. "Backing it in" A term that used to reference the use of the rear brake in a turn to slide the rear tire a bit. Sliding the tire causes the position/angle of the bike to change. The end result is a sharper turn. |
