Last week was a good week for the Olds... I cleaned out all the sand and dust I could find and stuck it in the paint room on top of a hydrolic lift. Left you can see what it looked like after the grey sealer. The lift was used to raise and lower the car to ensure good coverage on the rockers and roof rails. Plastic was pulled to cover the car openings to reduce dust that may still be trapped inside the car. Notice below that the lift is extended to max height and this does make painting the botton of the rockers much easier.. Oh yea the dash and rear exposed package tray were painted just before the car was taped up for painting. Scroll down for more.... |

The red was shot Thursday before we went home for the day. Now, Monday morning we came into the shop and water sanded the red to remove trash. After cleaning the car good another coat of red was applied and then the stripes were laid out on the car. The painter was just going to blow the black color on before giving up for the night. When I opened the shop door this morning (Tuesday) he had a big suprise for me. The picture below was what I saw when I opened the paint room. I was expecting just the black stripe and dull red..... |

Notice we installed the black stripe on the quarter and at the trunk area. This way when the other pieces are assembled the stripe can be applied to the door and fender later and cleared over while on the car and be inline correctly. |

The below two pictures are after removing all the paper and tape and sticking the wheels on. That red is actually just about orange in the light..But then again I like it.... This car came out straighter than I expected after all that sanding. With this part of the project done it is very hard to get anything else done at the shop without stopping to look at it. Next the doors and fenders will make their way into the paint room with probably some of the plastic front end panels. After that the trunk and hood will be painted with the mirrors and fender fillers to be completely done with color painting. Then the panels assembled to the body and the black stripe taped off and applied to those panels. I really can't wait to see this done now.... |
