| Any time severe weather threatens the Kansas City area, SKYWARN Storm Spotters are in the field monitoring the weather. This is an all-volunteer organization of specially trained amateur radio operators who work in conjunction with FEMA, each county's Office of Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service. |

The SKYWARN affiliate organization for Johnson County, Kansas is Johnson County Emergency Communications Service. They are responsible to the Johnson County Department of Emergency Management and also report information the the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. |
