Luke Stinchcomb Sensei 1st Dan Luke started with Kenkyukai in March 2003 aged 8. He is the longest serving student in Kenkyukai Southwest and has attended many courses in both Wado and mixed Martial arts, including the AWA Budo Yasumi (2004 & 2006). He's also well travelled, visiting other Dojo in order to train with different Sensei. He has learnt from many top Wado instructors including: Hironori Otsuka II, Kuniaki Sakagami, Fumio Sugasawa, Gary Swift, Nick Smith, Rob Smith, Peter Mills, Pete Whitney, Mike Sutcliffe, Barry Wilkinson, Peter Hall, Alan Flook & Dave Wheatley. In other Martial Arts: Mally Holmes, Umberto Bergonzini, Charlie Gallagher & Steve Cook (Jujitsu), Ron Holt (Kenjitsu), Steve Merret(MMA), Paul Wheel (Muay Thai), Craig Finch (Kobudo & Shorin Ryu Karate), Harry Cook (Karate) & Rod Forsyth (personal protection). In April 2008 Luke graded to Shodan (1st Dan) under a panel consisting of Gary Swift Kyoshi 7th Dan, Nick Smith Shihan 6th Dan, Graham Chuck Renshi 6th Dan & Roger DeVries Sensei 4th Dan. His practical marks were very high and he managed to score 95% on his theory, a very good pass rate indeed for someone who's 13 years old. Luke, or 'Stinch' as he's affectionately known amongst his fellow clubmates has no interest in competitive Karate, preffering to stick with the traditional values and ethics of Wadoryu. He's a good all rounder, but be wary of him in free-fighting as he does come up with some 'random' techniques. |

Sarah Hazeldine Sensei 2nd Dan. Sarah began training in Wado karate in 1986 with the Suhari Karate club with Jon Wicks in Farnham & Fleet. Suhari Karate club is a member of the UKKW under Tatsuo Suzuki Hanshi, 8th Dan. She entered the UKKW nationals, held at Wembley North London, in 1987 & 1988, attended a number of courses with Suzuki Hanshi, and eventually graded under him to Shodan in 1997. During her time training she only took time off to start a family, getting back into training as soon as she could. Her family were also bitten by the Karate bug, with her husband Zane attaining 4th Kyu, and her daughters Ashleigh & Emily attaining 4th & 5th Kyu respectively. She joined the Wadoryu Karatedo Kenkyukai in 2003 after moving to Gunnislake in Cornwall, and even though the Kenkyukai syllabus is somewhat different she adapted to the changes in no time at all. Since then she has trained with many other well known Wado instructors, namely Gary Swift, Nick Smith & Peter Mills on the Kenkyukai anniversary courses, and many of the Sensei from the WKU whilst attending their courses. In September 2005 Sarah graded to 2nd Dan under Chuck Renshi & Swift Kyoshi. She helps teach at the Gunnislake Dojo, sometimes covering for Chuck Renshi in his absence. |
