Graham Chuck Renshi 6th Dan  









He has organised many courses, both Karate and Multi art, and been invited to teach on numerous occasions, both here and abroad. (Including a multi-art course in the Algarve, Portugal in 1996 and two visits to American summer camps for children, in 1984 & 1993).

In 1996 after much soul searching he left HKK and founded the Wadoryu Karatedo Kenkyukai, teaching authentic Wadoryu, the style of Hironori Otsuka  Meijin 10th Dan.
The following year he was invited to become Chief grading examiner for the South Wales Karatedo Wadokai and in 1998 awarded 5th Dan.  He was also invited onto the technical board of Matsuri Karate Kai.

Since moving to Cornwall and establishing 2 new Dojo in 2002 & 2003, he begun training with Gary Swift 7th Dan Kyoshi, Chief Instructor to the Alliance of International Wadoryu , to which the Wadoryu Karatedo Kenkyukai has become an associate member, with AIWA being in membership of  Wado Kai England and subsequently the Japanese Karate Federation –Wado Kai.
In December of that year he was greatly honoured to receive the title of Renshi from Swift Kyoshi, and the following March regraded to 5th Dan, undergoing a full technical grading before the AIWA panel.

In 2004 he was asked to be the Southwest area representative for the newly formed Almalgated Warrior Arts organisation, (AWA) an association open to all Martial art practitioners, to which he is now the designated Child Protection Officer.

In May 2005 he graded to 6th Dan, undertaking a grading comprising of nearly all the Wado Syllabus, making him the first person known in the UK to have taken this grade in Wado, before Swift Kyoshi and the AWA grading panel.

August 2007 saw him being appointed the senior Wado instructor for Karate International, under the leadership of Steve Leak Sensei.


Chuck Sensei is also a fully qualified Fitness Instructor, Kickboxercise (Tai Budo) teacher and practitioner of Yang style Tai Chi, Ju-Jitsu and Bo-Jitsu which gives him a further insight into the understanding of Wado-Ryu Karate.
Since Sept 2003 he has been involved in teaching personal protection & awareness at various schools throughout Devon & Cornwall.

In nearly 30  years he has studied under many famous Masters and teachers in all styles of Karatedo and various other Martial arts.
His Wado teachers have included: Hironori Otsuka II, Toru Arakawa, Katsumi Hakoishi, Tatsuo Suzuki, Mizuho Ashihara, Kuniaki Sakagami, Toshiaki Maeda, Shingo Ohgami, Fumio Sugasawa, Shuzo Imai, Rob Zwartjes, John Moreton, Joe Balko, Barry Wilkinson, Mike Sutcliffe, Nick Smith, Colin Clapperton, Gwyn Evans, Vic Charles, Jeff Thompson, Nieman Prince, Steve Rowe, Alan Flook, Mick Rapley, Dave Wheatley & Pete Whitney.

Began Wado Ryu Karate in February 1979 under Yoshi Shinohara and the UKKW in Romford, Essex aged 16. After training for four & a half years he attained Shodan (1st Dan),  and a further six months later left Shinohara Sensei and his then association the EKA,  to join  Higashi Karate Kai. Training at a local club under Peter Hall and the late Paul Hurst, and at the HKK Hombu under chief instructor Peter Spanton,  he graded to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Dan, as well as qualifying as Association Referee and EKGB coach- Senior level.

In 1985 he began teaching Karate on a regular basis, producing many students of a high standard, including 1st and 2nd Dan, and several successful competitors in various national and local events.
