Thoughts on Perception Real magic in relationships means an absence of judgment of others. ~ Wayne Dyer ~ Do not judge, that you may not be judged. For with what judgement you judge, you shall be judged. and with what measure you measure, it shall me measured to you. ~ Matthew 7:1-2 ~ Make no judgments where you have no compassion. ~ Anne Mccaffrey ~ We need very strong ears to hear ourselves judged frankly, and because there are few who can endure frank criticism without being stung by it, those who venture to criticize us perform a remarkable act of friendship, for to undertake to wound or offend a man for his own good is to have a healthy love for him. ~ Michel Eyquem De Montaigne ~ Remember, when the judgment's weak, the prejudice is strong. ~ K. O'Hara ~ Outward judgment often fails, inward judgment never. ~ Theodore Parker ~ Other Quotes on Perception Great Spirit, help me never to judge another until I have walked in his moccasins. ~ Sioux Indian Prayer ~ Do not judge, and you will never be mistaken. ~ Jean Jacques Rousseau ~ Hesitancy in judgment is the only true mark of the thinker. ~ Dagobert D. Runes ~ If you would judge, understand. ~ Seneca ~ Even God doesn't plan to judge a man till the end of his days, why should you and I? ~ Source Unknown ~ Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions. ~ Albert Einstein ~ If God thought about you as much as you think about Him, where would you be? ~ Source Unknown ~ The more opinions you have, the less you see. ~ Wim Wenders ~ |

Walking through Chinatown, a tourist is fascinated with all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners. He turns a corner and sees a building with the sign, "Hans Olaffsen's Laundry." "Hans Olaffsen?" he muses. "How the heck does that fit in here?" So he walks into the shop and sees an old Chinese gentleman behind the counter. The tourist asks, "How did this place get a name like Hans Olaffsen's Laundry?" The old man answers, "Is name of owner." The tourist asks, "well, who and where is the owner?" "Me, is right here," replies the old man. "You? How did you ever get a name like Hans Olaffsen?" asked the bemused tourist. "Is simple," says the old man. "Many, many year ago when come to this country, was stand in line at Documentation Center. Man in front was big blonde Swede. Lady look at him and go, "What your name?" |

Tsinoy says: What's in a name? 'A rose by any other name smells as sweet.' Right? I'd say it depends on a number of things. You acquire a distinct personality depending on how others value their relationship with you. A tell-tale sign is how they describe your personality. If you listen to their words very carefully, you won't fail to note whether their statement stems from their biases (conditioning, prejudice) or from a politically-correct mindset. Folks, have you ever wondered how a word to describe you can take different meanings, depending on how a person holds you in esteem? Consider the following: |
Low esteem High Esteem Tagalog (English) Malandi (hottie/ promiscuous) liberated Mataray (chatterbox) articulate Pandak, bansot (shortie) petite Tabatsoy (fatso) healthy galisin (has scabs) allergic Kuripot (stingy) budget-conscious Pilay (cripple) differently-abled Sira ulo (dimwit) mentally -challenged Ulyanin (senile) senior citizen |
As for me, I overheard people refer to me behind my back as panot! (receding hairline). Yet someone who needed my help called me a Dindo Fernando look-alike! Artista yun ah. Pero teka, panot din siya, 'di ba? (Mmm...he's a dashing Filipino actor. But wait, he's also got a receding hairline, doesn't he?) You guessed it right! The flattery didn't fly. (LOL) Alright. My ego was deflated. But I take comfort in the words of Peter Gomes in The Good Book (1996) where he explained the meaning of the words "We are all created in the image of God," or in tthe image of goodness. He says that the only equipment we require to live out the image of goodness in the world is what we have, because God has given us by his very creation of us the capacity to image, i.e. to "imagine"; what is good, what is true, and what is beautiful. It only requires us to have the courage to be and to see things not as they are but as they ought to be, so that we can cope with things as they appear to be. In other words, beauty is skin-deep. Look beyond the person. Get into his/her personality. Chances are, you might even find a jewel of a friend in that person. Let us reflect on the words of Reverend Gomes. And let us feel good about ourselves. Hair or no hair. Cheers. Tsinoy |
One who makes distinctions of respect and disdain, High and low status, the big and the small Will be unable to perceive the truth underlying all things. ~Bodhisattva Shanshui~ If you are pained by external things, it is not they that disturb you but your own judgment of them. And it is in your power to wipe out that judgment now. ~ Marcus Aurelius ~ |

One's pristine nature becomes contaminated because of conditioning. Not to fall into the duality of good and evil and gain and loss is to see one's original nature and perceive the absolute. ~Yaoshan Weiyan~ We should be lenient in our judgement, because often the mistakes of others would have been ours had we had the opportunity to make them. ~Dr. Alsaker~ |
