Looking at the front of the "X" section of the frame. Again you can see a bit about the brake line routing...what will be the fourth sides of the two "C" shaped frame members are to be fabricated and welded in place. There was an article in an issue of Grassroots Motorsports where the author did so in anticipation of racing his car - he says it gives the frame more torsional rigidity. Longitudinal rigidity, apparently, is already pretty good. Also recommended are gussets where the "X" meets the fore and aft frame members.
Similar shot, only from the rear. Here the central box is clearly visible - the large hole is where the exhaust pipe passes through.
Again the goal is to fill in the fourth side of these frame members such that they have a box section. Another recommendation is to strengthen the outriggers by inserting some pipe whose outer diameter matches the inner diameter of the outrigger tubes, and welding it in place.
At the front of the picture are the mounts for the lever-type shock absorbers. You can just see how I tackled the problem of getting their bolts out on the left one - grinder! There are a few real advantages to taking the body off and access to problem areas is definitely one of them.
On to the page showing the strengthening work having been completed....
