Glenn's Barcelona Journals 6-03-02 Monday morning and it's our last day in Barcelona before taking the overnight train to Sevilla. Over night travel days seem to wear you down as you put in a full day until the train leaves at 10:30 pm or later, then you don't really get any sleep while the train travels (and stops) to many towns on the way to your final destination. Once you arrive the next morning your first task is to find some accomodation before you can truly stop working. By then you take a four hour nap to recuperate and start your day when you awake. What is the benefit you ask? It does save you the cost of one nights accomodation, the trains are slightly cheaper in the middle of the night, and you get into town early enough to get choices about your next accomodation. Anyway!!! A big travel day is also our day to do chores and work on the website. Our first task today was to go to the internet cafe and download pictures, Once that is completed then I leave Erin to utilize Adobe Photo shop to edit the photos primarily being size reduction (so they don't eat up so much space on the website and they are easier for our friends to open). I, in turn, am off to take care of the laundry. I am not totally sure how this became my task this trip but I don't mind. By the time I finished with laundry (It was quite busy today!) and repacked the backpacks Erin had already moved to the EasyEverything internet cafe (that we had agreed upon) to continue working on the website and adding more journals. I met her around 2:00 pm where we then took a lunch break before continuing our day. After lunch Erin continued working on the website while my next task was to get our train tickets set up for tonights train to Sevilla. I left for the train station around 3:00 pm (which required a metro ride to get there) and estimated that I would be back in one hour. Once at the train station I tried to reserve seats on the Barcellona to Seviila train for that night. "I'm sorry" I was told "but all of the Barcellona to Sevilla trains are sold out for the next 3 days". Well, I had to re-think my options. After asking about a few different options I finally figured out that the train from Barcellona to Madrid and then from Madrid to Sevilla were both available so I booked them both. We arrived into Sevilla a little later than the direct train but only by a few hours. We had already checked out of our hostal and I didn't really want to find another place to stay if we didn't have to. I have learned to ask plenty of questions as they are not forthcoming with data or options without the right questions. At least the problem is solved. I returned to the internet cafe around 5:00 pm where we both continued to work on journals and answer e-mails. We left the internet cafe around 8:00 pm. To pick up our backpacks from the hostal and take off to the train station. We hung around the train station until our train left around 10:30 pm. We would arrive into Madrid around 7:00 am and had to change train stations. Luckily we had scheduled enough time between trains and the circunsia went straight to each of the major train stations in Madrid (which there are three). We even met a nice couple from the San Francisco area on there honeymoon. They were also heading to Sevilla. |
A Flea Market similiar to the ones at home. Somethings are nice and somethings are junk!!!. |
