Thursday morning in San Sebastian and the day is dreary and overcast. The general strike all across Spain is scheduled for today as well, even though most of San Sebastian observed it yesterday, we are not sure how much will be open or running today. No worries!! We still have some groceries from Tuesday left over that will suffice for breakfast and we will go out around lunch time to see what we find.

We started the morning off with breakfast in bed and, like yesterday, relaxing in bed with our books and some journal writing. I am feeling pretty good about my journals as I only have 4 days left to write to be all caught up. I will try to complete those tonight as we intend to update the website on Friday, since it is a big travel day anyway (San Sebastian through Paris to Milano).

We finally showered and got out of the house around 1:30 pm where our first task was food. We visited a restaurant that was recommended by the lady renting the room to us. She had mentioned it a few times so we thought we would give it a try. We chose from the menu of the day and both had paella, while Erin had chicken and I had escalope for our second course. This was definitely some of the worst food that we had had all vacation. The best part of lunch was the chocolate mousse that Erin had and the helado that I had; otherwise we could have passed on the rest. We really can't complain if this is only the second meal that we have complained about in 3 months.

After lunch we went to the beach to relax and catch some rays. Well the sun wasn't exactly out and almost as we sat down on the sand it started to sprinkle a little bit. We ended up sitting under a covered area along the beach while we waited for the shops to open. Finally around 4:45 pm we headed off to try our luck at shopping. We weren't really looking for anything specific as much as we were window shopping but we had seen something in a shop the other day that I thought I would purchase. We walked around the shops for a while until we were almost done and then Erin wanted to go play basketball in the gameroom that we had found the other day. We played a few rounds and then headed to the one shop that I was interested in. We walked straight in, purchased the items that I had seen the other day, and left around 7:15 pm. From here we went back to the room to drop our shopping off before heading out to dinner.

Tonight for dinner we chose to take a right out of the building and head away from the center of town for dinner. We had eaten at a Bocatta fast food restaurant earlier in the week and we hadn't been much farther in that direction. We walked for a while only to realize that there were not many choices for food (except for tapas at all of the very smoky bars) but on our way back we finally found a little cafeteria where we had sandwiches and drinks. After dinner we returned to the room, read a little, and turned out the lights early as we would need a good nights sleep tonight. Tomorrow is a big travel day taking the night train from Hendaye (on the France side of the France / Spain border) through Paris to Milano. We wouldn't arrive into Milano until almost 3:00 pm on Saturday then we would catch the next train to Como. Basically we would not see a bed or a hot shower until Saturday night. The good news is that this is our last long train ride of this trip.
