Madrid, as Spain's capital city, is a bustling metropolis built in the middle of the desert. It is both a political and a cultural center, with impressive buildings housing the national ministries and a wide variety of museums and art venues. By night, the city is a loud, lively place that starts getting busy around 10pm for dinner and continuing in cafes and discos until the wee hours of the morning. There is plenty to see, but be sure you can take the heat! It was in the high 90's the entire week we were there, and many of the budget hotels don't have air conditioning! |
