The mounted statue of Mussolini in front of the monument to Emanuele II
At left, the Coloseum in its current state, as seen from interior.

At right, the so-called Spanish Steps, actually built by the French!
Rome is an amazing, historical city with way too much to see! We spent 6 days trying to get to all of the major attractions, from the Coloseum to the Vatican, and still only took in a small fraction of the significance of the sights we saw.

Another thing about Rome, besides being an ancient wonder, is its modern roar. The city was packed full of native Italians as well as wandering tourists like ourselves, and the combination can be exhausting. When  you go, plan for a few recovery days at the beach afterward!
