snowboards. Catherine had previously only been to ski school, and had initially thought that she would be doing more of the same, so it was a real shock to her to find that Dad was planning on taking her out on the real slopes!
Dad had to stay by Catherine the entire way down the hill. Though she could manage perfectly well on the first green slope she tried, seeing the same grade on a grander scale filled her with such angst and intimidation that she had to be coaxed down every inch of the hill. However, Dad was proud to see that despite the fact that Catherine shed many tears of fear all the way down the slope, every time she fell, she immediately picked herself back up and bolstered up her courage for more of the same.
Meanwhile, Lewis and Patrick could only be reigned in for so long. Though they did their best to wait patiently for Dad and Catherine to follow, their eager anticipation to hit blue slopes finally overtook sensibility, and they took off on their own down the run, after carefully repeating each turn that they were supposed to take. But a few falls evidently erased not only sensibility but memory as well, and when the time came to meet at the bottom of the slope, the boys had found themselves hopelessly lost on another side of the mountain. Fortunately, the boys were resourceful enough to turn on their two-way radios and got instructions to find their way to the entrance. The park rescuers pointed out the way, and though they missed the shuttle back to the lodge, they did arrive safely to the entrance to the park, where Dad was very happy to see them return safe and sound!
