Most animals, when overcome by fear or uncertainty, naturally follow their instinct to run, to fight or hide. This can make them difficult to find when the time arrives to secure them, so a few simple things should be done ahead of time to ascertain that you will be able to locate them in a few short minutes: 1) Place "pet-proof" latches on cupboards and closets (earthquake-motion can cause toxic cleaning goods to spill to the floor where they may be licked-up) 2) Be memorizing the locations where your pets like to sleep so you can locate them should electricity go off. 3) Make certain that windows are open only enough to allow air circulation, but not allow pets to escape through them. 4) Keep a pair of stout gloves readily available for handling of the pets when they are scared and may not trust even the owners they have come to rely on. CATS are particularly apt to become disoriented and use their claws on their owners!!. This is an instinct and nothing to be taken personally!! Everyone will be hyper-alert & scared. 5) Have a reliable pet carrier on hand for small pets, or an appropriate bridle for larger ones. A leash may not fit the category of a "containment device" as well as a bridle would, and would provide much less control for the owner. Another major concern is FOOD, which must be packaged so that it is both adequate to the needs of your pet, and reasonably convenient to carry and distribute to them. Patterson believes that nothing short of 2 to 3 weeks pet food put back makes any sense at all--more is better! Here are some tips for FOOD PREPARATION, then: 1) Know how much your pet can eat in a sitting, and set up a supply of small to medium-sized baggies, each with the appropriate serving of dry food within. The same should be done with any MEDICATIONS your pet needs. Get a bottle of Scaler Silver--it is a natural anti- biotic and can be used in 1 cc doses in the eye. Most Health Food Stores carry it. 2) Do not pack "wet" food, as the weight of any amount of it will be prohibitive to the needs of convenience. Rather, purchase some packs of dry gravy mix which - when reconstituted with water - will provide a tasty and nutritious meal for your pet. 3) Try to package a small variety of foods as your pet's tastes may change according to the quality of the environment and the water used in the preparation of its meals. 4) Remember to pack a bottle of tuna oil for either cats or dogs, as this will retard or prevent the formation of hairballs, and will keep them "regular" in thier "daily duty". Keep in mind that there may not be a vetrinarian available, and YOU will become your pet's first line of defense for health and healing! 5) If your pet usually eats "live" food, be prepared to hunt so that you may provide it. Yet another consideration is COMFORT, which can entail a great many details ranging from companions to warmth. It is important to provide articles which are familiar to your pets, including: 1) Favorite toys 2) Personal rugs or blankets 3) Other family pets who are friends or relatives for companionship 4) A piece of cloth or garment with the "owner's smell"--good for shock-reactions Part of comfort is ASSURANCE that they will still be taken care of, and that they can rely on thier owners to provide in a manner which is beneficial to them. Petting and talking to pets is critical in this regard, and it is the way most pets are accustomed to recieving love as well. Like children, they must never be made to feel that anything going on around them is "their fault". Keep in mind, however, that some re-training may be necessary in light of the changed - and strange - environments they will be facing in an uncertain future. TSUNAMI EMERGENCY: TAKE YOUR PET WITH YOU in the event your coastal area is hit with a tidal-wave or "tsunami." Caging your pet, or otherwise confining it to your home will doom it to death by drowning, or serious injury from collapsing walls or roof. YOU MAY NEED TO MAKE THE UNPLEASANT DECISION TO ALLOW YOUR PET FREE-RANGE TO FIND HIMSELF SAFER GROUND. NEVER EUTHANIZE YOUR OWN PET (the idea that he may "suffer" if you don't euthanize most certainly will add unimaginable emotional stress to you and your family. Leave life to God--do what you can. SELF DEFENSE Unless you are absolutely positive that your pet will never ever be in a position where it must defend itself, DO NOT HAVE IT DECLAWED !! Claws are necessary to survival for most small animals if they find themselves in the wild, or even when they come face-to-face with any of a number of known natural enemies. A cat, for instance, can neither fight nor climb a tree when assailed by a dog, and in this case, de-clawing them - though perhaps "convenient" to the owner and thier furniture - will then prove to be disadvantageous and cruel to the cat. Please be considerate! CARRIER SETUP In the event that a pet must be left in a carrier for more than a few hours, it is advisable to cover most of the wire meshing with a padded cloth to reduce any possible injury from constant rubbing when your companion needs to change sides or position. Foam pads should be avoided--use layers of cotton like infant receiving blankets, if possible, due to the fact that some pets may eat it and cause themselves to choke or become intestinally"bound up", leading then to other problems. Furthermore, latches should be checked for secure funtion, yet be easy enough for you to open in case of need to comfort or release your pet. A very small supply of food should be included, and if possible, a "drip-type" water feeder that allows filling of the tube only when your pet licks a drop off the bottom of the tube. This will both provide water, and help to keep it from being wasted by spillage. There are probably lots of other things that should be considered for the safety and well-being of pets, but these basics should help to cover some basic questions that people will have in regard to pet safety in catastrophic times. | AMAZING "DAYLIGHT-SAVINGS TIME" COVER-UP 3/11/2007 WHY IS DAYLIGHT-SAVINGS EARLY THIS YEAR? YOU NEED TO KNOW WHY--IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! On March 11, 2007 the US will institute the earliest daylight savings time switchover in history. Question: Could the zetas explain why daylight's savings time has been changed by 6 weeks? In 2007, daylight time begins on March 11 and ends on November 4. Beginning in 2007, DST will start the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November. ZetaTalk Explanation 3/3/2007: Obviously, the official reason for extending daylight savings time in the US is energy consumption reduction. The energy savings are a wash! If this is the case, is there an ulterior reasons for the extension? It has been known, by the establishment, that the Second Sun would again become visible as Planet X drew closer to the Earth prior to passage. Desperate plans were laid. Using chemtrails to fog up the view was one solution that has been in place and frantically running for the past couple years. Plans were also laid to prevent commuters from observing the sunrise. Farmers have no time to stare at the rising sun, as they are busy well before the sunrises. But commuters spend time on train stations, stranded in cars staring at the sights, or riding and likewise staring at the sights. In Winter, in the US, the skies are gray, overcast, and the Sun rising too late for the sunrise to be an issue. Look at March 11, the fateful day chosen for the switch. Without daylight savings time, the Sun is at the horizon at 7:30 am, a prime commuting time. But with daylight savings time, the Sun is well above the horizon, that moment when the Second Sun is visible gone, by the time commuters are likely to stare in its direction. For those looking for a rationale as to why daylight savings time was switched when this would surely be a wash in savings, this is the reason. As with the Discovery Channel excuse for chemtrails, they are hoping you do not look to the skies, especially at sunrise! So look! Many Americans haven't taken basic steps to prepare for a natural disaster and have little confidence the federal government is ready to help them if one strikes. The first named storm of the year formed Wednesday off the Atlantic coast as fires burned from Florida to Los Angeles and President Bush toured a Kansas town flattened by a tornado. When it comes to preparing for such disasters, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 41% of people don't have a stockpile of food and water, and 27% don't have an extra supply of medicines, both of which the Federal Emergency Management Agency says are basic disaster preparations. About 40% haven't picked a person for their family to contact in the event of a disaster and 18% don't have a first aid kit. WHO'S READY FOR DISASTER? Those who say they have the following things to prepare for a natural disaster: •First-aid kit, 81% • Supply of personal care and hygiene products, 81% • Supply of medicine, 72% • Radio with fresh batteries, 71% • Designated person outside the area that your family would contact, 60% • Stockpile of food and water--minimum of 30 days (NOT 3 days!!), 59% Those who say the following people or groups are ready to deal with a natural disaster: •Local police and fire departments, 68% •Local hospitals, 62% •You and your family, 60% •The federal government, 31% Answers based on an April 13-15 USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of 1,007 adults. Margin of error: +/-3 percentage points. When people aren't prepared, it puts an extra strain on emergency managers across the country, forcing them to deliver food, ice, water and other supplies to people who could have stored their own, FEMA Administrator David Paulison says. "That puts an unbearable stress on the system," he says. In Miami, a hurricane hotspot, that means emergency crews now face demands to have shipments of bottled water ready within hours of a hurricane — even when the tap water is still safe to drink, says Robert Palestrant, director of Miami-Dade County's Office of Emergency Management. "We probably need to step back to where we were a few years ago and depend more on ourselves and less on the government." he says. "People have this expectation that my power's out, so somebody should give me cold water." The main reason people don't prepare is that they don't think they're at risk, says American Red Cross spokeswoman Greta Petrilla. If people expect the government to save them, they don't think it will actually be able to do so.
