HERE IS THE STEEL FOR THE FRAME AND THE TWO AXLES.
THE MOTOR WILL BE TAKEN FROM A JOHN DEERE RIDING MOVER.  IT IS A KAWASAKI ENGINE.
THE FRAME SECTIONS  WAITING TO BE CUT TO LENGTH AND CLEANED.
THE FRAME PIECES HAVE BEEN CUT TO PROPER LENGTHS, DEBURRED, CLAMPED IN POSITION AND WAIT TO BE WELDED.
THE FRAME HAS BEEN WELDED AND THE WELDS ARE BEING PAINTED TO PREVENT RUST.
THE MOTOR MOUNTING PLATE HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
THE MOTOR HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON THE FRAME.
THE MOTOR HAS BEEN INSTALLED, OIL ADDED AND A TEMPORARY BATTERY PROVIDED.
THE MOTOR STARTED AND RAN.
MANY ITEMS HAVE TO BE FABRICATED.  FROM THIS PIECE OF 3 INCH COLD ROLLED STEEL, SIXTEEN PLATES (LIKE THE ONE SHOWN) HAVE TO BE CUT, DEBURRED, DRILLED AND ULTIMATELY PAINTED.
HERE ARE THE SIXTEEN PLATES, WAITING TO BE DEBURRED AND DRILLED.   EIGHT WILL HOLD THE SPRINGS TO THE FRAME AND FOUR WILL HOLD THE SPRINGS TO THE AXELS WITH THE HELP OF U-BOLTS (WHICH WILL BE FABRICATED LATER).  THE REMAINING FOUR WILL HOLD THE STEP PLATES TO THE FRAME.
The blue bolts will eventually be the spindles on which the two front wheels are attached and the two spindle bolts.
The plastic sack contains three more brass bushings like the one beside it.  These become the brass bearings on which the spindle bolts revolve the front tires/wheels.
The long rods will become the u-bolts which old the axles to the springs.  The fabrication of the u-bolts is next.
The long 5/16 inch rods in the previous picture have been cut into these 5/16's x 11 inch rods.  The ends have been deburred and ground to a slight cone to accept the die cutter.  They await the threading of each end.
The 11 inch rods are clamped into the vise and threaded on each end.  The threads should be at least 2 inches on each end.
With the help of a homemade jig, the rods are heated in the center and bent round a piece of pipe the size of the axles.  My what we go through to save a few dollars.
Here are the completed u-bolts.  They are exactly the size of the axles and will be placed through the spring mounting plates fabricated in the steps back a few pictures.  These plates and u-bolts will hold the axles to the springs.
THE WHEELS ARRIVED TODAY (1-5-06).  THEY ARE 26" X 1.25" WITH A 3/4 INCH I.D. SHAFT BEARING.
