A NEW SECTION has been added! Two short stories from the setting (both taking place during the Succession Wars some 500 years earlier than Dawn of Winter.) Check them out below the "novel" section at your lower right! Be sure to send feedback to the email address of author!

In the process of creating and writing a fantasy novel, I have posted and will continue to post parts of the novel as they are being created. The names, story, and characters on this page are property of the author, and any unauthorized use of this material will be prosecuted fully.

Below, you can find some introductory chapters as well as resource materials for the novel. There are maps, backgrounds, historical overviews, as well as notes to myself about the setting. I welcome any and all feedback from visitors.

The Northern Duchy of Horwald has survived within the kingdom of Iradar for centuries. Iradar is a land populated by the descendants of ancient conquerors who subjugated the people of the North and nearly wiped out their way of life. Many centuries later, a deeply buried hatred still simmers between the aristocratic nobles of the south and the desendants of the raucous, violent, uncouth men of the north.

House Gendry, the ruling Dukes of Horwald, walk the fine line between forsaking their northern heritage and offending their King in the south. House Rendor, the ruling family of the Kingdom of Iradar wants to rid the north of the fiercely independent northmen, and schemes with the powerful churches of the land to remove House Gendry from power.

As fall draws to a close, and the harsh winter weather approaches from over the Northern Sea, the Duchy sits on the edge of war, and the Son of the Gendry Duke must decide to join the nobles of the south, or his own people of the north in the upcoming struggle.
