Jade bolted out her bedroom door when she heard the phone ring, hoping that Jaimie wasn't calling to cancel their breakfast. "Hello?" she answered breathlessly as the loud knock sounded on the door. Jade rolled her eyes and sighed, as she turned the door handle and let Jaimie in. "Jade. I tried calling you a million times last night.." Josh said over the phone without even saying hello first. She gave Jaimie and exasperated look, causing Jaimie to cover her mouth or she'd have laughed loud enough for Josh to hear. "Hello and good morning to you, too." Jade answered sarcastically. "I am late, what do you want?" she prompted when Josh stayed silent, shocked at Jade's tone. "You're not late..you don't go in 'til.." Jade cut him off. "I am having breakfast with Jaimie and I am hungry. WHAT DO YOU WANT?" she barked, and Jaimie's jaw dropped open, though she was smiling. "I wanted to apologize for...you know..but your phone was busy for hours.." he whined. "I took it off the hook." Jade snapped. "And I want to have breakfast with my friend, and I DON'T want to deal with this now, I have to WORK. AND," she sucked in her breath and let out a sigh. "I am still pissed off. So I'll see you when I am not so pissed. Goodbye." she said flatly. "Jade wai-" Jade hung up the phone and stared at it as if it might bite her. "Well come on goober. If we go stuff ourselves you won't hear it if it rings." Jaimie giggled, grabbed Jade's purse and coat and shoved her out the door, locking it behind them. The waitress set the girls' breakfast in front of them and refilled their coffee cups, then left them to chat in the loaded pause that occurs when two women are having an intense personal discussion. Jaimie buttered her pancakes and then looked up at Jade. "So. Why in the world did you stay on the phone with Ike so long anyway?" she grinned. "Drink that coffee too, so you can have another gallon to keep you awake today." she laughed. "Start talking, Jadeleigh." Jade let out the millionth deep sigh of that morning, and Jaimie had to take a bite of her breakfast to keep from laughing. She waved her fork at Jade to signal that she was still waiting. "I dunno Jame. He was just being so nice and he's fun to talk to and I was pissed at Josh and....HE'S IKE... and I am in deep shit here, huh?" she looked at her friend with a pained expression. Jaimie had to laugh. "I dunno. Josh would be pissed, maybe, but if you just dump the geek.." and Jaimie paused. "I am mad at him too, so I'm sorry if I sound too harsh, " she continued, "you'd have plenty of chances to run into Ike if you were hangin' out with me. I think Tay will be around awhile." Jaimie smiled. "OH MY GOD!!! Jame...really?" Jade squealed, truly happy for her friend. "I didn't stand a chance." Jaimie actually blushed as she smiled and Jade was flabbergasted. This was more than Jaimie's usual fling to 'release tension' as she so mildly put it. "Jadeleigh, whatever you do you know I am with you. But in all seriousness Issac has my vote. And something fishy is going on with Josh. I think you need to examine his actions a little more closely, I don't think he's that forgetful or inconsiderate for NO reason. Okay?" she reached across the table and squeezed Jade's hand. "I get the message, Jame. But I still have to be fair and give the man a chance to explain. And THEY'RE family, I dunno if I could live with myself. Could YOU? And what ARE you gonna do about Zac?" Jade changed the subject quickly. Jaimie was better at dealing with this kind of stuff that she was. "I KNOW Zac likes you, Jaimie. As fast as things are moving with you and Tay I don't think he's prepared. It might blindside him. He was full of questions about you, even though he knew you were out with Taylor." she told her. |

"Jame?" Jade urged when Jaimie didn't answer right away. Jaimie thought for another second and shrugged. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I guess." she said and took another huge bite of her rapidly disappearing pancakes. "Great. We should start our soap script right freakin' now.." Jade muttered and Jaimie almost choked on her food. She wiped her mouth and took a long swallow of her water, then laughed out loud. "I do believe you're getting JADED in your old age JADELEIGH." Jaimie teased. "Maybe I'll have to learn that song 'specially for you." Jaimie laughed again at Jade's surprised expression. "It'll be all good, you'll see babe." Jaimie told her friend comfortingly. "Eat. And swallow that coffe so you can get a gallon to go." Jaimie waved her fork at Jade again. Jade grinned widely. "Yes, mother." she said and took a bite of her breakfast. "See ya Jadeleigh. Are you coming to band practice after?" Jaimie asked as she dropped her friend off outside her place of employment. "Yeah. I'll hitch a ride with Patti. Don't get up too early." Jade answered. "Kay. But if that doesn't work out call me and I'll pick you up. Later girlfriend." Jaimie said as Jade shut the door. "Later. Say hi to Tay." Jade said as Jaimie started the van up again. "You mean Ike, don't you smartass?" Jaimie giggled. "Bye." "Bye Jame.." Jade went into the building, hung up her jacket and sat down at her computer. She punched in and lisened to her voicemail. Three messages from Josh. 'Ugh!' she thought and erased them all. "Let him sweat.." she muttered, then went into her e-mail to try to start working. "Damn.." she muttered and checked SEVEN e-mails from Josh to be deleted. "This is gonna be a helluva day.." she groaned as Patti came up beside her. "Josh again?" Patti grinned. "Yeah," Jade sighed. "I'm gonna make him squirm a bit before I let him explain this time." she said and shuffled her stack of papers so she could get started. "THANK GOD! Jameson IS starting to rub off on you." Patti laughed. "Tell him he better have a provable alibi or he has the rest of us to deal with." "Yeah yeah..." Jade giggled. "Oh hey. Jame dropped me off, can I hitch a ride with you to practice?" she asked. "You betcha. Take your lunch same time as me today too, I feel a need for some female bonding." "Kay, thanks, I will." Jade smiled and got to work. |

Jaimie pulled off her boots and put them away, then tossed her flannel work shirt in the small woven basket hamper in the tiny bathroom. She briefly considered taking a shower before bed, but decided that after that giant stack of pancakes, listening to Jadeleigh, and making love with Taylor for so long before she went to work, and then working all night, she was too exhausted to move. Driving home after dropping Jade off was hard enough. Her eyes were watering and burning holes in her head. She pulled off her socks and threw them in the hamper, slowly moved her body to the futon, then let herself drop onto it with a thud and a loud groan. She rubbed her own sore feet for a few minutes and decided that was futile, after the royal treatment Taylor had given them the other night. She pulled her legs up onto the cushion, curled up on her side, pulled a pillow under her head, and the blanket up over her shoulder. Her last thought before she fell into the deepest sleep she'd had in a long time, was that everything she was wrapped in smelled like Taylor. |
