4) The Supervisor turns on the computer (if it is not on already) and logs them in on the “student” or “internet” account. If the customer is using Internet the Supervisor must connect to the Internet on the Server computer.
5) When they are finished the Supervisor makes sure that they log-off, or if it is the end of the day, that they shutdown.
When a customer wants to prints:
1) The Supervisor and the customer look at the Print Preview.
2) The customer pays the Supervisor.

Pricing
Paper: One reem of paper (500 pages) lasts about as long as a black ink cartridge, which is $40 from Systems and Solutions
Special Paper: Each sheet costs $.40 at Office Equipment.
Ink: Ink cartridges last approximately two months each. Color cartridges each cost $30 and the Black ink cartridge costs $40 (prices from System and Solutions).
Seasons
It appears that the use of computers is seasonal. There was constant use of the computers for research and report creation all the way up to October. Once exams got underway in the high schools, academic use dropped off considerably. This may be a good time to advertise other uses of computers and target non-students.

The Server computer is to be used only to manage the scanner, the CD rewriter and to connect to the Internet (through the “connect” account). This computer processes enormous amounts of information and without proper experience and knowledge, improper use may cause disruptions throughout the whole network.
Steps for using the Scanner:
The CD Writer
Internet
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Operating System
Norton Anti-virus 2001 (and new definitions, downloaded from the Internet)
APC Power Management software (goes with Back-UPS CS 350; is programmed to shut down Server during prolonged power outage)
CanoScan driver and software (including Photo Studio)
Adaptec Easy CD Creator and DirectCD
Cannon BJC-3000 software (use CD software installation, not the automatic installation provided by Windows and set Paper Size Default to A4).
Kodak Digital Camera Software
Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit
Symantec Ghost Software
Microsoft Office XP (Set Paper size Default to A4)
Microsoft Office Premium Disk 2 (Publisher).
Internet Explorer 6 (downloaded from Internet)
WinZip
Adobe Photoshop 6.0
Adobe Acrobat 4.0
WINAMP music player
Unplug all external hardware before clean installation. Plug them back in as their perspective drivers are loaded.
Use NTFS filing system.
Do not install superfluous software, only the minimum to ensure optimal performance. It is also best to do general work including using the Internet on only client machines.
Partitioned During Setup:
C: Operating System (Windows 2000 Server)
This was partitioned with not enough space (it should have been 3 gigs). There are only 100 MB free. Partion Magic did not work, it actually recommends using Volume Manager. To avoid the little amount of space remaining getting filled up all Outlook Express Mail files on the Administrator account have been directed to Files (D:) Manager Files/Outlook Express Messages. Internet Explorer Temp files have been routed to Files (D:) TEMP. Adobe PhotoShop Scratch files have been directed to the E: drive.
D: Files (the only folders on the Server that are shared including documents from users, supervisors, and managers files and music files)
E: Programs (All non-operating system Server programs. Always direct program installation to this drive)
F: CD Player
G: CD Rewriter
H: When Digital is in docking bay and the button on the docking bay is pressed, then this drive will appear
Class Practices: Mapped on each client workstation student accounts as K: drive. Security: Everyone - Read only.
Users Files: mapped on each client workstation user accounts as K: drive. Everyone has full control. Intended to be a place for temporary storage of general user documents in case they do not have a floppy disk.
Supervisors Files: Mapped on each client workstation supervisor accounts as K: drive. Includes Classes information for instructors, supervisor Personal Folders, Pictures, and Operations Management (Posted Rules, Cleaning Procedures, Computer Management, Cool Web Sites, Opening Hours, Operation Management, Payment Log, Project Ideas, Useful Phone Numbers). Security/Sharing: Administrator and supervisor
Music Files. Mapped on each client workstation supervisor account as L: drive. Use WINAMP (loaded on all computers) to play files. Security: Everyone (read only), Administrator (full control)
WDYHCC – Offline Web Page (E: Manager Files/WDYHCC/My Webs/WDYHCC). A short-cut is on the desktop of each client workstation supervisor account leading to Index.htm file in this folder. Security/Sharing: Everyone (read only)
Manager Files: Sharing/Security: Administrators
Setting up sharing and Mapping:
To share folders right-click on the folder (//Server/E:), select the “Sharing” tab and checking “Share this folder”. Right-click and go to properties to change Sharing and Security settings.
To set up mapped drives on clients log on to the desired account (for example you would log onto “student” to get to the account to share the “Class Practice” folder). Right-click on “My Computer” and select “Map Network Drive”. Browse to the Server and select the shared folder to be Mapped.

Server
First, install the modem and its driver on the Server. Then go through the setup process in “Phone and Modem” under the control panel. You will be asked to insert a DNS server address. You must use the TCC/Kalianet number: 207.124.73.129.
The Server to will then set the IP address automatically to most likely: 192.168.0.1. Same goes with the Subnet Mask, which should be automatically set to 255.255.255.0. Default gateway and Alternate DNS will be blank.
Right click on My Network Places, click on Properties, right-click on Local Area Connection, select Properties, highlight “Internet Protocol TCP/IP”, and click Properties. To share the Internet from the Server, each client must be set to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and in “Use the following DNS server address:” insert 207.124.73.129. However, once the DNS is set Group Policies will not be received from the Server. If you want to change the Group Policy settings you must click on “Obtain an IP address automatically.” (see: Group Policies)
Ghosting enables clients to appear uniform by creating the same image for all computers from the Server instead of loading all software individually to each computer, saving a lot of time and hassle. Here are the steps:
1. Installing Symantec Ghost Software
a. Choose “Basic” option in setup
2. Make a boot disk:
a. Open “Ghost Boot Wizard”
b. Select Network Card.
i. To find out what kind of network cards are on each computer go type “ipconfig –all” in the Command prompt (click “run” on the start menu and type “command’). The Network Card types for this Center are:
1. Wdcc1-5 network cards: Realtech 8139
2. Wdcc6-7 network cards: Intel 21143
ii. If you cannot find them under C:GhostImage/Driver/Network or the CD, then you will have to look it up on www.driver zone.com.
1. Once you have the driver you must click “+Add” in the Ghost Boot Wizard. Then Browse and find the (DOS) file. You must save the Driver name as the name of the file and add on a $. For example if the file was RTSND, then name it as RTSND$.
c. Select “Symantec Ghost” (DHCP will assign IP settings)
d. Choose Floppy Disk A:, click “Next”, through information
e. Insert Floppy disk to be formatted
3. Dumping from Client
a. Insert boot disk on client appropriate for that client’s network card, turn power on (make sure that the computer boots from the A: by going through NetBios – hit delete as computer boots up)
b. Open “Multi-cast Server” (under Symantec Ghost)
i. Type in a session name (can be anything)
ii. Select “dump from client”
iii. Image: save as… [under E:\Symantec\Ghost\WDYHCC Image\(today’s date).gho]
c. On Client, select “Multi-casting”
i. Type in session name
ii. Begin session on Client and Server
4. Loading to Client
a. Do the same as above except choose, “load to client” on Server and open the Image just saved above.
b. Once complete click “OK” and then “Reset computer”
c. Sometimes to get the computer on the Network you will have right-click on My Computer and, under “Network Identification” go to “Properties” and change the name to the appropriate computer (from the computer that was ghosted): wdcc#. Then switch to a Workgroup named anything. Restart the computer, and go through the same process and switch it back to a Domain and just type in “kolovai”.
d. You might also have to re-enter the DNS server address to have Internet shared.
I never figured out how have Group Policies downloaded at the same time the Internet is shared from the Server. At one time Group Policies would only when the DNS server address was set to be obtained automatically on a client, but then the Internet does not connect to that computer. The Internet is shared only when the DNS is set as Kalianet’s address: 207.124.73.129, but then Group Policies don’t work. Now, however, GPs don’t download no matter what (the ghosted images of client computers do have the GPs included if it is necessary to reload GPs). With all the literature that Tonga now has on Windows 2000 Server, it must be possible to find a solution to this.

Ping
To check to see if a computer is communicating on the Network (intranet or internet) use the do a ping under the Command Prompt (see above). To see all the ping options with type “ping /help”
To ping Kalianet type “ping 207.124.73.129”. You can ping a web page on the Internet. For example, “ping google.com”. To ping another computer use it’s assigned IP address set for the computer through DHCP. To find another computer’s IP address “ipconfig” on that machine’s Command Prompt.

Use only Internet Explorer 6 (or above) because it has certain securities than block some viruses (like the Nimda virus that wiped out the WDCC in September 2001). Also to avoid similar disasters like the Nimda virus, turn off the Web Server function on the Server by going to “Services” (under “Administrative Tools” on the start menu), selecting properties on the “IIS Admin Server” (by right clicking), and changing the “Start-up type” to “manual”.
When dialing into TCC use 990. There are more lines and it is a faster connection.
Norton Anti-Virus and McAfee VirusScan
McAfee VirusScan is installed on each workstation computer. It would not install on the Server (because of the Server OS) so Norton is installed instead.
Download updates to each computer at least once every two weeks. Downloads are not always successful. The best way to do it is off-hours (before 9AM, after 9PM, or the weekends) and one or two computers at a time. If the download gets stuck and does not complete, repeat the process.
On the client computers (using McAfee) downloading updates for “Scan Engine” and “McAfee VirusScan” has not been successful for reasons unknown. Fortunately, downloading virus definitions (the most important part), labeled as “virus signatures” works.
Internet Sharing
Tracking User Navagation History
There is a program installed on all clients called spIE with the (password: trust), which will list the history of user Web Page hits on Internet Explorer. To download this program to other computers look for the install copy under the Program Files\Programs not currently in use\spIE.
A good time to check the logs is every two weeks while downloading new virus definitions. Look for pornography hits, abuse of supervisor allotted Internet time (1/2 hour per day) and whether the Payment Log has a record of every Internet customer use (and the correct length of time).

Troubleshooting
If the Internet is inconsistently working by connecting at very low kilobits per second and continually disconnects, check for static on the phone line. I have called the TCC five times because of this problem. Each time someone comes out, does something to the outside phone line and apologizes, explaining it is a bad phone line.
Hardware
The computers should be opened up once a year to clean the dust from the fans. This is a dusty place however, and doing this every six months might be a better idea. The best way to do this would be to use a canister of compressed air to blow off the dust.
Digital Camera
To download pictures from the camera, insert the camera in the docking bay (which also serves as a battery charger) and press the docking bay’s button. The digital camera then becomes the H: drive. Pictures can be cut and paste using My Computer, Windows Explorer, or they can be opened through Adobe Photoshop. Once the pictures are downloaded onto the computer, they must be deleted from the camera.
When taking pictures the digital camera sometimes does not turn on even though sufficient battery power remains. The slide over the port on the bottom must be closed for it to function properly (remember to open it when downloading new pictures).
Digital Camera instructions are installed in the Server, but can also be accessed through the installation CD.
Other
Power Failures
When this happens the UPS back-ups give about five minutes of juice before they go, so shut down all computers including the Server as soon as possible. Each time this happens I immediately call the Tongan Power Utilities, tell them I am calling from the Western District Computer Center, and ask them when the power will return (usually in a matter of hours). I also ask them to please notify the Computer Center next time they shut of the power. They have never called beforehand, of course, but instances of power outages seemed to have been reduced.
