"Punk", "Goth", "Metal." Each self-defining label tries to separate themselves from the rest of society and in the process are conforming themselves to each other. They try to be different from everyone else, but make each other the same. Some major stores support this sickening middle school crime agaisnt individualism. I'm not going to name names so we will call this store "Top Hopic" for the sake of disscussion. Top Hopic takes every 80's nastalgic logo, saying, etc. and turns it into a t-shirt and suddenly everyone has been a fan from the start. Even if they weren't alive when this icon from the past was started. So in order to be different, everyone buys these things. But the problem is that EVERYONE buys these items so everyone is the same. Somewhere amongst the piercings, purple hair, and black fishnet shirts, people lose their identity to yet another fashion. The "Uncool Look." Which is actually the cool look because if your eyebrow piercing isn't connected to your left testicle then you are not "punk enough" or "cool enough."
Even the things that were uncool back in the day, become cool now. Did someone say Marky Mark and Milly Vanilly? Even "Top Hopic" was uncool until uncool became cool. But wait...if uncool is cool, isn't it cool then. And then cool is uncool? But is that new uncool from the ex-cool cool because its uncool? Whatever, this is to confusing. I'm going to go back to letting society shape my ideas and beliefs.
