I couldn't help but notice the item at the top of the Metro review, about the judge who stole over $300,000 from a mentally disabled woman's trust fund. Equally amazing was the revelation that part of his thievery was actually obscured by a statute of limitations, even though it seemed apparent they had to guy dead to rights. This really hit home with me, as I used to work as a personal counselor for developmentally disabled adults (that's the PC term for "mentally retarded"), and witnessed things like this even on a small scale, in a group home setting. One counselor was dipping into a client's bank account in order to accomodate her own wardrobe, another considered a client's groceries as fair game for her and her boyfriend, who would often spend nights at the client's house. My attempts to confront these perps were fairly futile - smokescreens are pretty easy to fabricate when most of your witnesses are mid-40s adults who have the mental capacity of a three or four-year-old. It's obscene how people can get away with that kind of shit.
