| What have David Beckham, Nayim and Sam Marrs got in common - apart from the fact they've all had silly haircuts??? With the score poised at 5-1 against the Angels, morale was low. It seemed impossible they would score again, never mind win the game. So it was fitting that Marrs, on seeing the goalie off his line, would attempt the impossible and score from the centre spot. The assist from Steel was exquisite - from the centre he tapped an inch perfect one foot lay forward for Marrs to strike with his right foot. The strike wasn't perfect, but flew high in the air, curling right to left towards goal. Too late, the Real Ale keeper saw what was happening, and as he came to meet the ball, it bounced on the 18 yard line and over him into the net, much in the style of Scott Nisbet's goal for Rangers against Bruges in the Champions League in 1993 - but better. Despite one of the best goals in Sunday league history, Angels went on to lose 7-4. Surprisingly, the famous halfway line effort did not win goal of the season, much to the annoyance of Marrs and to the amusement of everyone else. |
