Welcome to the New Players section of our website. This area is intended to assist newcomers in creating a character, establishing a background, and learning about the game world.

The Wearyall Chronicle is a stratified game, in the sense that there is a mix of older, adolescent, and young characters all playing in the same game world. Generally, the different levels interact with themselves; that is, the eldest spend their evenings planning and scheming to direct the course of the game, the adolescents control affairs within the town, and the youngest characters carry out the wishes of their superiors. We try to greatly encourage prestation debts, blood oaths, and non-lethal resolution to differences in opinion and/or insolence. Openly slaying one who has angered you, or disobeying a superior, are dangerous behaviors that will probably cause swift and harsh repercussions. The younger characters are expected to obey their betters, out of duty, and in hopes of earning respect, advances in position, favors, and/or boons. Older characters are expected to regulate their lineage and/or students, as well as their well-laid plans. Each rank within the structure has its own rewards and drawbacks:

Fae

Changelings are not known at this time. We are waiting for their rulebook.

Mages

The mortal sorcerers of Wearyall are rapidly disappearing. To clarify - you may not play a mortal sorcerer without Storyteller approval. Then again, you can't play any type of character without Storyteller Approval.

Mortals, Ghouls, and Retainers

In The Wearyall Chronicle, mortals are the most numerous personae. (whether PCs or NPCs) They have every and any motive under the sun. Some are farmers, some are merchants, some are gypsies. The possibilities are limitless. They are the community that the vampires "recruit" from, but can also hold power in their own right.

Please note that the chronicle currently accepts only "plain" mortals. You may not buy Numinae, Praxes, or True Faith without Storyteller approval.

The following is a chart for starting traits for the three stages of life. Please refer to the White Wolf books for character creation. Any questions can be directed to the Storyteller.

Type Attributes Abilities Influences Max. Neg. Traits Max. Flaws Starting Humanity Starting Willpower
Child 5/3/3 1 0 4 4 5 1
Adult 6/4/3 3 1 5 5 4 1
Elder 6/5/4 4 2 6 6 3 2

A few words about the Ghoul Merit. If you are coming in as an existing PC's (or NPC's) ghoul, this Merit is free. If a player wishes to be a "free" ghoul (that is, a ghoul who does not have a Regnant, and is not under a Blood Oath), he or she must spend 5 Traits on the Merit.

The following Merits are restricted: Faerie Blood, Kinain, Kinfolk, and Gnosis. You may buy these Merits only with Storyteller approval.

See the Storyteller if you want to play a Revenant.

Mortals may take 1 Derangement; it is worth 2 positive Traits at character creation.

Cainites

Vampires, who refer to themselves as Cainites, have been around a long time. A real long time. Since Caine and Abel. They drink blood, they can't come out in the daytime, and they don't naturally die. Sounds good, right? Well, in addition to the mysterious powers they hold, and the elaborate political and social games vampires play, it is a pretty interesting unlife. So let's get started. You're going to need access to a copy of Laws of the Night: Revised Edition, The Long Night, and possibly a copy of The Laws of Elysium, all published by White Wolf Game Studios - they're the rules systems we use in The Wearyall Chronicle.

There are three stages of Cainites to our game; Elders, Ancillae, and Neonates. The groups are primarily determined by the number of years a vampire has existed. (Some vampires are more than 1000 years old) Please refer to the White Wolf books and the top of this page for their respective roles in Cainite society.

Please keep in mind the following ideas when creating a Cainite character. We always allow neonates, and usually ancillae, but "elder positions" are rarely open. Please let the Storyteller know if you wish to play an ancilla or an elder, as we try to regulate power levels in the game, and look for experienced players to take on these roles. Also remember that all new characters are given the opportunity to find an in-game sire. This is not vital, but greatly encouraged, as it further perpetuates the hierarchy of the Cainites. If you wish to play a specific clan, please let a Storyteller member know, and they will connect you with a potential sire. Having a sire in the game is a mixed blessing; you gain the generation of your sire (plus one) for free, as well as his or her protection, advice, and supervision. You are limited, however, as you will probably be performing tasks for him or her, and he or she is around to catch you if you embarrass him or her or mess up.

The following is a chart for starting traits for the three strata of vampires. Please refer to the White Wolf books (noted above) for character creation. Any questions can be directed to the Storyteller.

Type Attributes Abilities Backgrounds Status* Disciplines Max. Neg. Traits Max. Flaws Starting Virtue Traits
Neonate 7/5/3 5 5 0 3 5 5 7
Ancilla 8/6/4 6 6 1 4 6 6 7
Elder 10/8/6 8 8 2 6 7 7 6

* Neonates begin with a provisional "(Recognized)" Status Trait. This Trait cannot be bid in a Status or Social Challenge, and it does not count toward total Social Traits. It is temporary, given to those who have yet to earn the permanent Status Trait "Acknowledged."

Disciplines at character creation cost 3 Traits per Basic level, 6 for Intermediate, and and 9 per Advanced. (+1 for out-of-Clan disciplines) Neonates may take Disciplines up to and including Intermediate, ancillae may take Advanced, and true elders may take the Master levels with Storyteller approval.

Derangements are allowed; neonates and ancillae may have 1, and elders may have 2. Malkavians already start with one Derangement, but they may take a second. (and third, if an elder) Each derangement is worth 2 positive Traits.

Werewolves and Other Shapechangers

The Changing Breeds are seeking players. This means Garou and Corax are playable. Others need to be checked with the Storyteller.
