Psychopomps: "The leader," or "conductor of the soul". It is an epithet of Hermes as conductor of the souls of the deceased to the realm of Hades. The Egyptian god Anubis also had such a function. A guide through the underworld of the subconscious mind and the intuitive heart.

The Gods of the underworld rule over the riches of the earth, this can also be construed as the treasures of the subconscious mind, and the shadow self. Goddesses usually rule the night, the moon, the Yin energy. Beautiful Dark Gods are now claiming their place in the magick of the night. The Yin male principle that nurtures psychic ability, informative dreaming, and a gentle spirit. We try to hide our darker selves, thus ignore the underworld gods thus ignoring one of our greatest strengths - the subconscious. They rule over sleep, dreams, protection, boundaries, gateways, doorways. In Buddhism they protect the sacred teaching from those who are not ready for the deeper knowledge. Caves, Water under ground, Springs, Oceans, Deep places in the earth, the feeling of descent.

Invocation of Morpheus:
Morpheus Lord of Dreams, we call unto thee.
Weaver of webs in the attic of the subconscious.
Great Jackal, Manifesto of impermanence,
Magickal King, Sandman, Anubis, join us now.
Come down from your moon lit mountain,
with wispy cloak and eyes of light.
Past the stars, through the clouds of disbelief.
Awaken our imagination,
throw your poppy like sand upon our distracted minds.
For we come to dream, to pay homage to the art, the joy, the reality of fantasy.
Descend for we welcome thee Morpheus.

Morpheus: The Greek god of dreams. He lies on a ebony bed in a dim-lit cave, surrounded by poppy. He appears to humans in their dreams in the shape of a man. He is responsible for shaping dreams, or giving shape to the beings which inhabit dreams. His name means "he who forms, or molds" (from the Greek morphe), and is mentioned as the son of Hypnos, the god of sleep. 'Morphine' is derived from his name.
