For a moment, lying in bed in the middle of the day, Rivers feels proud. He has had sex 3 times, in less than 24 hours, with 3 different women. Miriam has the same thought on the other side of the bed. She feels disgusted.

“You know what we did, right?” Miriam asked Rivers.

“Um… yeah.”

Awkward silence.

“It’s just funny how… we never even held hands before, and we jumped right into bed,” thinking it’s funny.

“Rivers, shut up. I’m gonna make breakfast, you want some?”

“Yeah, the same old.”

--The same old. I think we should have had sex a friggin’ long time ago. You know, we should been together. I mean, we’re so perfect for…--

Her thoughts are cut by the smell of burnt eggs. “Shit, he likes them… well, non-burnt…”

“It’s ok, Mim. They’re just burnt. What the hell were you thinking that got ya so deep into it?”

“I don’t know, you?” She gave a dry laugh

“Hah, no one can resist captain cuomo. I knew it.”

“You think too much of yourself. You just put out this first album and think you’re the greatest musician on earth.”

“I think people will love my next album. I’m gonna write all these songs about college sex and half Japanese girls, like you. They’ll like the way… I’m exposing my feelings, like in the first one.” Rivers says like a 7-year-old boy bragging about his first A in Mathematics. Miriam gave a laugh.

“You should be more depressed than this if you want to write an album like that. But you just had great sex, like 3 fucking times in less than 24 hours!”

“So? Sex is just… sex.”

“Oh.”

Rivers knew he had said the wrong thing. “Shit, I didn’t mean it like that, Mim.”

“Yeah, sex is just sex, Rivs.” She is lying. She knows that he can see it.

He’s trying to think of something else to say. “You know that Green Day concert where you couldn’t go coz’ you were all sick and shit?” Miriam nods to show that she remembers. “I asked Ayumi, the cello gal, to go with me, but then she didn’t know who Green Day are.”

“What the hell?” Miriam says, in a bit of shock.

“Yeah. So the concert sucked without anyone with me there. I wished you were with me then.”

Miriam starts to laugh and Rivers joins. But inside, Miriam hopes he means it. Rivers wishes she knows that he’s not joking.
