Hello and thank you for your interest in home schooling and our support group.  I hope you find the following information helpful and informative.

My name is Roxanne Mann and my husband is Lewis.  We are second-term presidents of the local home school support group, Christian Home Educators of Laurens County (CHELC).  Currently CHELC has 20 families with 62 children!  We meet several times a month with different opportunities for involvement:

(1)  Mom's Night Out - Moms meeting together in each other's homes for dessert, coffee, and fellowship. 

(2)  Friday Forum - Where moms, dads, and others in the community co-teach our children in classes such as Spanish, Art, Art History, P.E., Small Engine Repair, Beginning Sewing, Calligraphy, Crafts, Music, etc.  

(3)  Field Trip - Fun and educational outing for all ages.

(4)  Fun Day - Swimming, ice skating, playing at a nearby park, meeting with other home school groups, etc.

CHELC also offers:

(5)  Newsletter - 8 pages of very informative news, calendar of events, crafts, freebies, great websites, scripture, sale items, etc.  (Our monthly newsletter is currently mailed to all member families at the beginning of each month, but will soon be available on this website!)

(6)  Mobile Library - Has resources about starting to home school, encouragement, the "how-tos" and many, many other helpful topics.  Our Librarian has these materials available at almost all activities.

(7)  Phone & Email Chain - The phone chain is only used for urgent messages.  We prefer the email loop to alert families of home school news and activities in the Upstate.  We also send Friday Forum, field trip and fun day information and reminders for upcoming events via email.

I hope this has given you a glimpse of the support and activities we have in this county for home schooling.  We currently have families in these cities of Laurens County:  Fountain Inn-1, Gray Court-3, Clinton-7, Laurens-8, Cross Hill-1 and we are always looking to enlarge our territory.  We invite you to attend, without membership, our next Mom's Night Out and/or Fun Day.  This would be an excellent opportunity for you to come to meet some of the moms, ask questions, and decide if your family would like to be a part of CHELC.  Bringing your children to Fun Day would be a good environment to introduce them to other home schooled children their age.   Please contact me if you need more information about this.

On a personal note - This is our 5^th year of schooling our children at home. We have Nicholas (13) in the 8th, Katelyn (9) in the 4th, Marisa (4) who loves doing "preschool", Lucas (3) who likes anything Marisa does, Olivia (born silent 6-14-00) and Patrick (6 mos)! I have been a member of CHELC since beginning to home school and can honestly say that their support has been invaluable. We would love to see your family join us!
