A subluxation has 5 components. They are; kinesiopathology, neuropathophysiology, myopathology, histopathology, and pathophysiology. Thats alot of complicated wording, fortunately we can use simpler terms. A subluxation will usually result in a loss of normal postioning or motion of a joint. You may have heard this called, "a bone out of place." It can manifest as stifness, lack of full motion and/or pain. It is easiest to think of it as a car out of alignment. What happens when a car is not aligned? The tires wear improperly and unless something is done there will be a blowout. It is just that way in your own body. A subluxation may also show nerve irritation. You may have heard this called, "a pinched nerve." Problems like herniated discs or inflammation associated with a subluxation can result in either a conpression or a facillitation (irritation) of the nerves. If this happens there will be pain at the site of injury as well as problems wherever that particular nerve goes. Leg pain, arm pain, headaches, numbness/tingling, burning and even constipation or other dysfunctions can be related to nerve irritation. Wrap a finger with a rubber band. It will quickly turn red and get numb, that is nerve compression. Scrape a credit card across the back of your hand, that is nerve irritation. Imagine that going on for days or months! |
