"You Got A Detention?!"

(part 1)

One nice early spring day, something came over me.  Maybe it was the warmer weather, I don't know.  Well, whatever it was, it turned out to be one of the funniest and most rewarding things that has ever happened to me.  That day, which was only a few days before the final exams of my freshman year, was the day that I decided to climb out a window.
It all began in El Gato Grande's (Big Cat's) algebra class one day.  While he was rambling on about something, I was off day dreaming, bored as hell.  I turned around for a moment to look out the window, and saw a squirrel just standing out there.
"Hey, a squirrel!" I said, just to see if anyone would look.  A few did while I kept staring at the beast.
As it was nearing the end of class, (Thank God), someone came back to the windows and opened it and its screen.  At that moment I thought up the idea of climbing out of the window.
The next day passed by quickly until seventh hour.  Mr. Moran's class was long and drawn-out, as usual.  While Mr. Moran kept talking about square roots or something similar, I looked out the window again.  No squirrels were there this time, but I kept looking through the glass.  I turned to my left and then whispered, "Hey, Richie, I'm gonna climb out the window!"
He looked at me for a moment, then smiled.  "Go for it."
I turned back to the front, then whispered to Buckley, "I'm gonna climb out the window."  He turned around, then grinned and nodded.
The window was already open and the screen up.  I pushed the screen up a little higher so that I could fit out of it, and then I turned back around to look at the clock.  It was just about time for the bell to ring.  The familiar sounds of books being stuffed into bookbags filled the room as I did the same.  I put the bookbag on my left shoulder, and when the bell rang I quickly and quietly went out the window.  As I grinned, sounds of laughter were heard behind me, and then the window slammed shut.
It was all over within a few seconds, but I couldn't believe what I'd just done.  It made me proud.  I kept smiling as I traveled behind the school to the stairway next to the soda machines.
Ms. Emerick spotted me as I descended the stairs, but I just kept on walking.  A few moments later I reentered the school through the door near Mr. Strieker's room, then went up the stairwell.
A few minutes after that, Greg Artz had stopped me in the hall, then said, "Hey, Ms. Emerick caught ya."  I looked at him, muttered an obscenity, then returned to my locker and then home.
My mom had picked me up from school that day, and asked her usual question, "What did you do at school today?"
"Oh, nothing much," I replied, smiling.  I then turned to look out of the car window, and told her, "I climbed out a window."
          "You did
what?" she asked, laughing while I grinned.  "Well, I'd expect this from your brothers, but not you.  Although, I'm glad you told me, and I'm glad you tell me things."  I was a little confused by her statement, as I really don't feel as if I tell her much in general.  But I learned that my mother enjoys it when I let her know little tidbits, which is nice.  To this day, I've kept telling her just little things that have happened during the day.
We drove home, then I spent the rest of the night just doing homework and checking E-mail.  After a little TV, I got to bed.
