"The Souls Within" |
Chapter One |
Silver trotted through her forest home, hunting for her dinner. Stealthily and quietly she crept behind the timber until she'd finally found something edible. Eyeing supper carefully while hiding, she decided to take action. Just as she pounced at the small beast, a second wolf came after it as well. Silver looked up at him, her eyes blaming him for the prey's escape. Twilight, who was more often called by his nickname, Gray, opened his eyes wider to allow Silver's stare. She reduced the intensity of the gaze, then looked into Gray's eyes deeply and with a slight confusion. He came closer to her, then sat down, not once losing her eyes. Silver sat as well, still puzzled. Gray's eyes looked apologetic. "I'm sorry about that... I wasn't aware than another was searching it as I." His eyes became wider after a short pause. "My name is Twilight, may I ask what yours is?" Silver's eyes grew relaxed as she began, "Nice to meet ya, Twilight... I'm Silver." She held out her paw in friendship, but Gray didn't accept the gesture, not yet. To him, the touching meant trust, and trust was something he gave very carefully and very rarely. She placed her paw back on the ground. "Pleased to make your acquaintance as well," he said to her. He thought for a moment, then looked down at the ground, as if he didn't quite know what to say. "Maybe," Silver began, Gray's head lifting to listen to her. "Maybe we should be a team for tonight... I mean, to get food for the both of us." She tried so hard to hide her fascination about this soul, this feeling of wanting to know more about him. She just didn't want him to think of this little outing as a "date," at least not yet. "Alright," Gray said, "It seems as though this would suffice for tonight." He thought to himself, A date? Can she truly be interested in me, as I am her? He nodded, then stood up and crept quietly for a few steps. She smiled in reply, then walked up to him quietly as they waited for their supper. |
