The Souls Within |
Chapter Two |
The two wolves sat, talking quietly about how each had lived their lives until now while peering over the brush from time to time. Gray's dark gray fur and Silver's light silver fur and eyes blended well together, like the pigments in the sunset. They both looked up towards the fire in the sky as the sun was going down, their eyes aglow with wonder. The perfectly blended colors around them gave a warmth and harmony that Silver felt. "Twilight..." she began, her light eyes reflecting the sunlight. Gray turned his head back to look at her as she kept her gaze on the sun. The ends of her mouth curled up slightly, then she let out a long, deep sigh. "I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Silver looked back at him and smiled. "We seem to have a lot in common... so far, out of everything we've talked about, we've shared the same views on them." Gray smiled and nodded. "Yes, you seem to have the makings for a true and loyal friend." The sun set slowly, the bright oranges fading to rose, and then to blue. Out of the corner of his eye, Gray spotted a medium-sized doe. He silently arose, then turned to Silver and said to her by his stare, "I've got it." He shifted back to the deer, then quietly slipped through the brush. Silver sat up silently as she watched the grace with which it was killed. "Alright... c'mon and get it," Gray hollered at her as she began her pilgrimage to their dinner. She nodded and smiled at him, thanking him. "You're welcome," he nodded back. They began to dine on the scrumptious feast as Silver asked Gray more questions, probing deeper and deeper into his psyche. She was amazed at the sililarities between them both, but she was also happy to find them. That night Gray and Silver realized that they were meant for each other. Neither had the courage to say anything to the other about this; both never were in relationships quite like this one was shaping to be. They wouldn't have built up the courage to say anything until many months later, after hardships and truimphs... as normal friends. |
