Chapter Three |
"Silver... can I talk to you?" Gray asked. His expressions were distraught, Silver knew that something was wrong. "Of course," she began, sitting down in a small clearing in the forest. She leaned forward to look into Gray's eyes. He sat down in front of her, looking down at the ground. A tear fell from his eyes and he quickly covered his nose with a paw... nobody had ever seen him cry before, not even Silver, his best friend. "Twilight..." she said in a barely audible whisper. Silver rested her paw on Gray's paw near his eyes. He didn't pull away this time, and she knew what it meant. She took his paw and held it as she brought it to the ground. With her other paw she dried his eyes and softly spoke to him, "It's OK, baby... yes, let it out... you're going to be alright." She just held his paw close and spoke reassuring words, unsure if the gestures and true feelings would succeed or not. After an everlasting pause, Gray moved his paw over Silver's now and squeezed it. He then took a deep breath and raised his head. "Veronica..." he began in a shaky tone, "Oh, Silver... Veronica... she cheated on me, I caught her with another." He took another deep breath to try and keep the tears from falling again. "She... she was my first girlfriend..." His breaths came and left, full of sorrow. "I just can't believe it." Silver moved her paw back to his and held it close as she came closer to him. She raised her chin as she came to Gray's lowered head, and she carefully guided it to her neck. "Twilight," she spoke, almost in a whisper, "It's going to be alright." She caressed his paw tighter as she felt her soft fur gradually being moistened with salty tears. A short pause began, then ended with her words, "...I'm here for you, Twilight... always have been, always will be. This will be rough, I know... but you're not going through it alone." She held him for hours, just letting his soul settle and let his heart try and un-break. Eventually she laid on the ground as she kept his paw in hers. Silver fell asleep as Gray watched her for a few minutes. He laid on the ground next to her sprawled out body and slept. Not once during that night did their paws release. |
