The Women's Crisis Center is rooted in the resurgence of the women's movement in the 80s. Active organizing of women encouraged the discussion of women's experiences of all forms of violence which otherwise would have remained private and unrecognized. From there a group deeply concerned with the violence that pervades women's lives committed themselves to respond to the issue. On February 19, 1989 the Women's Crisis Center was formally established. It is the first and only crisis center in the Philippines which offers a comprehensive range of crisis intervention services for survivors of violence. It also introduced the radical concept of feminist counseling in the country. |
