| Personal Stories Rose Age 32 Sex has always been a problem for me, but over time it has improved. When I started having sex (at 16, I'm 32 now), it was extremely painful, and I thought that's just how it was for me. These days I think I didn't know enough about the importance of getting aroused first. I was diagnosed with vestibulitis a few years ago, when I started to experience the burning irritation as well as the usual pain. It was a big relief to have a name for it, and possible treatments. I also have herpes, so sometimes I just feel like my vulva is a disaster area! Now I am very careful to make sure that I am ready for penetration, even if I have to do the work myself. It's been great having a support group, cos I had never met anyone else with this problem. It's not the sort of thing you can discuss in polite conversation, and although I do mention it sometimes, other people don't understand. At times I have weeks with no problems, but then it comes back again. Hopefully one day I'll just get too old to have it anymore! |
