Both my undergraduate and graduate English degree programs at Eastern Kentucky University included several courses in proofreading and editing, grammar and linguistics, literary theory and criticism, and electives in philosophy and theology.  I studied primarily British literature (including pieces from Britain's colonies) as an undergraduate, and I concentrated on American literature, particularly from marginalized genres and socioeconomic groups, as a graduate student.

I am currently researching a paper on the portrayal of African-Americans and homosexuals in American science fiction.  :)

INDEPENDENT STUDY

Since entering college in 1998, I have taken advantage of university facilities and faculty to independently study a variety of subjects:  theology (particularly the Judaism/Christianity/Islam triumvirate); science fiction, fantasy, and horror literatures; natural and theoretical sciences (such as astronomy, biology, and, to a lesser extent, quantum physics); and, in addition to the history courses fulfilling my history minor requirements, I've studied ancient civilizations.  Furthermore, because I am a devotee of Jesus Christ, I have studied the Holy Bible and its supplementary texts -- the Apocrypha, for example, and the controversial Gospel of Mary and Testament of Dan -- quite extensively.  The various theories of evolution are also of particular interest to me, and I consider myself familiar with all these subjects.  I'm also very well-versed in console and table-top gaming, but don't expect to work with many clients who write about these!  :)
