Bethany Cabe
Name:    Bethany Ann Cabe (Van Tilberg)
[middle name listed in IM #141 as 'Ann' although in IM #300 it is listed
              as 'Camila'].
Occupation: Security Specialist/ Bodyguard (later head of Stark Enterprises
                   Security)
First Appearance: IM #117 - Tony Stark rescues her from a hoarde of male
admirers at the Carnelian Embassy. Bethany thinks Tony is
                             "strange but cute".
Hair: Red, with distinctive kiss curls near her cheeks.
Eyes: Green [although often listed as Blue, IM #124 specifically points to the
fact that they are 'emerald' coloured].
Marital Status: Widowed. Formerly married to German Diplomat, Alexander
Van Tilberg, previously presumed dead - actual death in IM
#211 from a fatal drug overdose.
Special Powers: None. However, Bethany is a superb markswoman skilled in
martial arts, hand to hand combat, gymnastics and flirting.
She also wore the Iron Man armour in IM #300.
AT A GLANCE  BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
MORE DETAILED INFORMATION
Bethany lives with her best friend, Ling McPherson on the Upper West Side of Manhattan at:

1339 West 70th Street, New York, New York 10023

(as listed in IM #142) near Central Park West and the Hudson River.

Her Brownstone apartment also houses the offices of
Cabe & McPherson Security Specialists on the second floor. Presumably, this means that either Bethany and Ling must live on the
first floor/ basement or on the third floor. We are
not told this information. However, in IM #126
when Bethany is briefly seen getting dressed for an
appointment in her personal living quarters, it
seems to be on street level.
Residence:
Style:
Bethany is always well-dressed, tending towards a chic, elegant and sophisticated look. She manages to look good in almost everything she wears, whether it is her original Christian Dior aqua Chiffon Dress, her black almost-bikini, or her white shirt, black waistcoat and blue jeans.
The only fashion faux pas Bethany seems to have made is in IM #117 where she sports heavy green eye shadow in her first appearance. Fortunately, she never wore it again but went for a more natural look.
Fashion Faux pas's
Friends and Family
Bethany's closest friends are Tony Stark and Ling McPherson (her partner). She is also quite friendly with Jim Rhodes, but he would probably not fall into her intimate circle.

Apart from
Alexander Van Tilberg, her former husband, the comics never listed any relatives of hers. Presumably she had a mother and father and was not a clone!
Enemies
For a regular gal like Bethany with no super powers, she managed to acquire quite a few. Madame Masque is probably her arch enemy, having squared off against each other in IM #139, and again in IM #203-204. The two even had their personalities switched by Obadiah Stane.

Other enemies include Justin Hammer (who kidnapped her in IM #140), Force, and Whiplash (whom she trashed in IM #124).

Mrs Arbogast also served as Bethany's regular verbal sparring partner, but at heart, the two had an underlying respect for each other.
Transport:

At the end of IM #128, Bethany is seen driving a "sleek Porsche Coupe" back to Long Island, probably on the Long Island Expressway. We are not told the exact model of Porsche, but given the year (late 1970s early 1980s), the models around were Porsche 924, 928 and 944. The 928 is more of a man's car, whereas the 924 and 944 is more suited to a woman - so it is probably one of these two. The drawing certainly does not look anything like a 928, so I'd go with 924 since the 944 was a slightly later model. She also has a custom number plate, simply bearing her name: "BETH". As to why she owns a coupe rather than a convertible in New York - only she knows. It is conceivable that she may have later upgraded to a convertible 944 model.

However, in IM#131, when Bethany comes to pick Tony up from the airport after a business trip to Hong Kong, she arrives in a
blue TVR. They find themselves stuck on the freeway for a long period of time, later to find out that the cause of the traffic is none other than THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

The drive from Long Island back to the Upper West Side along the Expressway could easily take up to an hour in heavy traffic. Let's hope she didn't have to keep driving
back and forth from Stark International.
