CEMETERIES
OF
WESTERVILLE, OHIO
The City of Westerville is located in both northern
Franklin and southern Delaware Counties. Even in it's earliest days residents
frequently conducted business, financial and personal, on either side of the
county line. In keeping with this practice, many Delaware residents can be
found buried in Franklin cemeteries, especially in or around Westerville.
In the early 1800s, most burials in this area took place on family farms,
however, there has been some reference to a community cemetery that once
existed in the center of town, near what is now 18 S. State Street. As Olde
Methodist and Otterbein were opened, these graves were removed to the new
cemeteries. Today there are three within the corporate limits of the City of
Westerville:

These burial grounds were originally overseen by
Blendon Township and the Otterbein Cemetery Association. By the late 1900s, the
City of Westerville had assumed ownership of all three cemeteries. Their
invidivual histories can be found on the following pages.
The birth and death dates provided for each interment are derived from birth,
death, census and interment records, as well as obituaries. Since there are
over 4,700 interments for all three combined, it will take some time to verify
names and dates, and upload obituaries. Please check back often. If the name or
obituary you are searching for isn't found in the interment listings, or if you
would like to add or correct information, please send me an e-mail using the
link provided below. I'll do what I can to find their information for you.
Additions and corrections will be made as soon as possible.
The headstones in Westerville's cemeteries, as well as others throughout
Franklin and surrounding counties, are being photographed and made available
online by David & Leona Gustafson, Franklin
County, Ohio Gravestone Photos & Etc. If the stone you are searching
for hasn't been photographed yet, send Leona a request. As you will see from
the high quality pictures provided on their site, they will do the best they
can to accommodate your request.
