"Dad, what is this?" Mae asked, placing the day's paper on the bed in front of Shane. "You never told us you were doing an interview like that." Shane looked up, "it's my life," he answered, "I can do what I want to..." Mae sighted, Shane was unreasonable, even in his old age he still had his way of getting what he wanted, without people protesting. The rest of the family started to get assembled in the room, and Shane looked at them. "Mae, will you read it for me, please?" Mae hesitated before she began...

'On this day, 30 years ago, the world was shocked by the death of 32 year old Veronica Filan. She was known for her numerous presenting jobs, singing and, in later years, minor parts in movies. And, not to mention the fact that she was married to Shane Filan, who broke into the popscene at the age of 19 with his band, Westlife. The couple re-released the old Westlife song, We Are One, as a duet in 2009, which they dedicated to the fans who had supported them through the years. The single did very well in charts around the world, and the two-some found themselves busy when it was scheduled for Nikki to go on tour with the band. The couple had two kids at the time, 5 year old Mae and 3 year old Nicholas, and they brought them with them.

Nikki herself, who'd tried to break into the popscene before she got married to Shane, said that she loved being on stage and it was what she'd always dreamt about. However, after the tour, she left the popscene again, declaring that she wanted to be able to take care of her family properly. She stared in minor roles in a couple of films and she kept on presenting for a while, but she slowly and safely disappeared completely from the limelight. And, on the 2nd of July, 2016, we were all shocked by the word that she was gone forever. The couple would have celebrated their 14th anniversary that day, and it was also Westlife's 18th birthday, even though the band wasn't really together anymore, as all the band members had agreed that they had achieved what they wanted with the band, and wanted to try out new things on their own.

Shane, who currently had a solo project going, hid out of the limelight after is wives death, and he never came back again. But now, 30 years on, he's come out of his hideout for an exclusive chat about his wife, their relationship, the family and life on the road in our 3 page special about the couple.'
