Press Release: Saturday, January 24, 2004 4:45 pm EST

Wet Note Records announced today the release of Smile, the long awaited recording by The Wetband. Although recorded in November of 2003, Smile (previously known by insiders only as Reunion) becomes the band's and Wet Note's first release of 2004.

Recorded at the revamped legendary Woodrow Amphitheatre21 in Ajax, site of the world-famous BW Blues Festivals, the disc features brilliant original compositions by members of the band as well as startling and exploratory new cover versions of many other great tunes. It is rumoured that the sessions were joined by the members of The WE Project, WOJO, ET Tu?, and the up and coming group, the Twins of Twang.

Insiders at Wet Note declared that "this is clearly the Wetband's best work by far since their previous album".

Although not planned as a 'concept album', this great release is naturally instilled with the most comprehensive set of related themes so far seen in a Wetband studio effort, according to a tipster inside Wet Note. "The Wetband is aging like a fine wine", said one industry wag, "smoother, bigger, balanced, and better all the time". Once again, The Wetband has broken new ground, uncorking what is sure to quickly become a must-have CD for all Wetband fans everywhere.

Stay tuned for the release of the cover art for Smile.

In an amazing turn of events, Kendallwood B. Wet has begun to release to the public his legendary treasure trove of photographs of the Wetband and friends. Kenny has set up The Kennywetca Galleries that feature many rare and previously unreleased photos of the Wetband and friends as they have never before been seen. The galleries include photos from Burtonstock, Club Wetnote and Suzefest.

Ray Brother, the Wetband General Manager explained to reporters that "Kennywetca" is actually Kenny's Lakota name, and hinted that a new chapter in the Wet family history would soon be forthcoming and would detail the lost years spent with the plains tribes.

Wet Note today has finally released the cover art for the Wetband's latest studio recording, 'Smile'. Courier problems and contractual conflicts had delayed the delivery  of the new CD to the band's famed bassist, Jethro Bassman, until late last night. The deliveryman, who has since been relieved of his duties at Wet Note, was quoted as saying "My horse threw a shoe, my boat sank, or my dog ate it, I can't remember which." Nonetheless, rave reviews have been pouring in for Smile. View the cover:

Well known didgeridoo player and cartoonist, Soukous70 from The Didgeridoo Tribe used his nimble pencil to capture Woody in flagrante delicto with a yielding piece of plumbing:

Woody's Rude Shock

Woody at first denied any knowledge of the aforesaid offence, but finally conceded that he lost control when his bathroom was pulled apart during a recent renovation: "All those pipes lying around. It was more than any didgeridoo player could stand! I didn't realize they had anything to do with my toilet!" The plumber has refused to press charges but a restraining order now keeps Woody a good ten miles away from any future plumbing projects.

Press Release: Tuesday, November 9th, 2004 1:51 p.m. EST

Wild rumors are circulating after Wet Note Records slipped a Wetband splinter group recording into release with no fanfare or press release. The group's name is JETHNO and representatives in the music industry have hastened to speculate that this is the beginning of the end for the Wetband as we know it. One insider noted: "This group name JETHNO is clearly a blatant rejection of Jethro and it seems likely that he is either leaving or being forced out of the band. And look at the album title, Almost Another Life! It seems likely that legal problems will prevent the remainder of the band from ever recording or performing as the Wetband again!" Wet Note Records has maintained their steely silence and steadfastly refused to either confirm or deny these rumors. Jethro is rumored to be trapped incommunicato in a small room with fifteen other people, while Wetband General Manager Ray Brother has also been strangely unavailable for comment and is said to be in tight seclusion with an assortment of beverages at his retreat on Woody Island off the coast of Alaska. Here is the cover of the controversial new release:

Press Release: Thursday, November 11th, 2004 9:51 p.m. EST

In a stunning turn of events, Jethro has emerged from his exile in a small room with fifteen lawyers and issued the following statement:

OK, I finally admit that Jethno exists. I have even updated my Discography page to include their latest CD in my comprehensive list. I have not been sitting idly by while Jethno seeks new glory and fame. The Twins of Twang are born. Their new CD is already tauted to be the best Wet splinter group album ever and the best selling one too. It will knock your socks off. Stay tuned for more news at a later date.

Music industry insiders now believe that the Wetband is truly washed up. Rumors swirl about what country music star Jethro has teamed up with for his stunning new CD. Most now believe that he has made a secret CD with Shania Twain under the name "Twins of Twang". One insider noted: "Just look at the evidence! Twins, Twang, Twain! Do you have to be hit over the head? She has been seen lounging around at their recording sessions, after all!"

Others were quick to ridicule these speculations. Another insider noted that Jethro has been romantically linked with a famous singing movie star who might be ready for her country music debut.

Just in time for Christmas, Wet Note is releasing the long and eagerly awaited debut album from their latest artists the Twins of Twang. The album is called In Their Own Way and will be available at your favourite Wet Note outlet this weekend . Contrary to previous rumours this album does not contain any studio guests whether female or otherwise. The Twins of Twang are composed of the brotherly act Wayne and Ted Burton. With Wayne on acoustic guitar and Ted on electric bass. The album was recorded in October at the famous Burton-Oakville Recreational Complex and Home for Wayward Cats. This is the studio used previously by other Wet Note bands - The Wetband and Wojo. The album is rumoured to have reached a new level in recording sound and has already out-sold all other Wet Note albums just in pre-orders.

In Their Own Way contains 11 original songs plus one cover of a Merle Haggard song. Jethno fans will recognize 2 songs from the 'Almost Another Life' CD (also available on Wet Note). There is a major reworking of the song 'Dreamer of Song' and a new version of 'If I Could Believe' done in the Twins own way. Another one of the new songs is the long rumoured tune 'Ain't No 'Y' in Willie'. The album can be best described in the Twins own words - "Country twang with an edge!". When asked for musical influences, the Twins dropped names such as John Prine, Steve Earle, Hank Williams, Warren Zevon, Gram Parsons, David Lowrey (Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven), Townes Van Zandt, and many others that I forget. They are such name-droppers!

Be sure to pick up the album. It will make a great stocking stuffer. One word of caution to you parents out there. The album does contain explicit lyrics so make sure that you check with your kids if that is OK before you buy it.

Enjoy the Twins of Twang and have a very twangy Christmas.

Jethro Bassman

Press Release: Friday, December 17th, 2004 3:35 p.m. EST

In a stunning turn of events, the long awaited Twins of Twang album is being released with a mysterious personal fanfare from one time Wetband bass player Jethro Bassman. Contrary to music industry expectations, the recording apparently does not feature Jethro Bassman, Shania Twain, Nicole Kidman, Winona Judd or any known Wetband member. The press is scrambling to get the lowdown on mysterious country music wannabes Ted and Wayne Burton. One music insider noted: "These two have appeared strangely enough on various Wetband Discographies, from time to time. They are musical loansharks that the Wetband owes big bucks to, and they are riding the Wetband coattails to fame and fortune!" Other insiders were quick to contradict this statement, darkly hinting that the Burton brothers are in fact the secret identities of two prominent Wetband members. Still other insiders stated that the Burton brothers were in fact the aliases of two unrelated Mounties that were part of an undercover investigation team that had tracked the Wet family across the country.

Still other rumors leaking out of the office of the Wetband General Manager, Ray Brother, suggest that Jethro Bassman is being held captive at an undisclosed location and wrote the Twins of Twang press release under duress: "You can read over, under and between the lines of that press release and compare it to other Jethro writings, and you will quickly come to the conclusion that Jethro didn't write it at all! Someone else is putting words into Jethro's mouth! This recording has clearly been hijacked by unscrupulous unknowns eager to cash in on the Wetband reputation, as well as the reputations of Shania Twain, Nicole Kidman and Winona Judd, not to mention Ray Brother!"

Press Release: Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 2:35 p.m. EST

In the continuing spiral of strange events surrounded the suspected disappearance of the alleged Jethro Bassman, an anonymous Jethro fan passed along the following information on condition that his anonymnity remains strictly anomalous:

While the Twins of Twang still continue to deny any knowledge of the
whereabouts of Jethro, I have discovered this unusual photo:

Mysterious Jethro Photo

Many questions arise from this photo:

    * why are the twins staring at the garage
    * why does Jethro have his tongue out
    * what the hell happened to Jethro's head

The plot thickens!

A Jethro fan.

This bizarre information prompted a rare statement from the normally reticent Wetband member Willoughby (Willy) Wet:

To the best of my knowledge this is a picture of Flat of Flat And Them fame. An obscure rock 'n roll band from the fifties.

I believe Wayne and Barb Burton keep a life size picture of him in front of their garage door because of the uncanny likeness to long friend Jethro Bassman.

That's what I heard anyway.

Willie B. (of ain't no 'y' in fame)

Hardheaded Paralegal Analyst Buzz Sawyer provides an incisive and insightful in-depth commentary on these revelations:

If you examine carefully the picture on the front of the Twins of Twang CD, you will note that the alleged garage door has NO PICTURE ON IT. Now if you look at the picture found by the anomalous Jethro fan, you will note that now there appears to be a picture! This suggests that this is not a picture at all, but in fact the REAL alleged Jethro Bassman sticking his tongue out with the stupendous effort required to stick his huge head out of the garage! What we have here is in fact documentary proof that Jethro is being held captive in that garage and that the Twins of Twang were forcibly trying to force him back into the garage or at least were restraining him from making good his escape. The abnormal size of Jethro's head suggests that either the Twins of Twang are in fact dwarves, or else, more ominously, that bizarre genetic experiments are being performed on Jethro Bassman to give him a swelled head so that he will not be able to get it out of the garage. As for the message from the alleged Willy B. Wet: we notice immediately that he signed it "Willie" which proves he has once again been brainwashed into believing he is Willie Nelson. Hence this statement would appear to be a red herring purposely designed by the perpetrators to deflect interest from the fact that the picture on the garage door is not in fact a picture at all, but the REAL Jethro Bassman! Note also that he is described as a LONG FRIEND! This in turn suggests that not only is Jethro's head getting bigger, but that his entire body is getting LONGER, since Jethro has never to this date been noted to be particularly LONG!

Wet Note, together with it's graphics subsidiary Flashlight Records, announce the long-awaited release of The Original Wetband first-ever recordings. Final production was completed late last night, after stress-testing by the CEO revealed no remaining problems that could not be swept under the rug.

The Original Wetband

The 6-CD set, the most ambitious project ever undertaken by Wet Note, includes 3 CDs of never-before-released bonus material, along with souvenir album covers and liner notes in a full-colour, black & white retro-booklet. No single track on the entire set has ever been released before exactly this way, in these completely new, remastered, alternate, and re-unmastered versions.

Listeners will find this Original Wetband recording, along with it's tribute to The Wetband, it's splinter-groups, and it's friends 'Along The Way', to be an ambient and visceral treasure-trove, stunning and original in every sense of the words.

This limited edition, historic boxed set shows that it is indeed a long way from that night in 1982 when Woody picked up Kenny and Jethro at the GO station, shone a flashlight, and the Wetband was born. The band still wears sunglasses in the dark, and plays until the birds start singing in the 'Stone Angel' dawn, demonstrating again the old adage that there's a very fine line between hobby and mental illness!

Get yours now! Long may you be WET!

Breaking News:

Wetnote Records, long submerged under a mountain of debt, receivership, and red-tape, not to mention numerous scandals, surfaced long enough to issue a press release tonight at a sparsely attended and quite brief news conference:

Wet Note and it's subsidiary, Flashlight Records, proudly announce the release of a new CD album by Wetband splinter group The WE Project, also known as The WE Band. This is the 5th recording by the band, and it is hoped that it's arrival will herald a period of refreshed activity by the slumbering Wetband franchise. This brilliant new record, titled Along the Way, Yesterday's Dust, or conversely Yesterday's Dust, Along the Way will be available tomorrow on shelves everywhere.

Listen to some tracks at the We Project Website

Initial copies of the final product are being shipped to Wetband members and their closer entourage as we speak. This CD is an absolute must for every Wetband fanatic. Simply, it is a must for every lover of independent, anti-mainstream, underground Canadian-bred music. Get WE, get WET, now! WE did!'

The recording sessions produced by WE Band members Woody B. and Kenny B. have been shrouded in secrecy, but apparently were done last weekend at an undisclosed location. Below is a leaked copy of the cover art for the new arrival:

Breaking News:

Wet Note, along with Flashlight Records, announce the release of the long-awaited double-CD set from the 2005 Practfest session. Performed by another Wetband splinter group, The WEST Wind Quartet, an extension of the famous WEST Wind Trio, the album is mostly electric and essentially, 'live', featuring mostly covers of other people's songs.

The entire session was recorded at The Creditview Club, the mysterious hideaway and studio of famed Wetband session-drummer Neil P. Ludwig, who is also a member of both WEST Wind bands, Trio and Quartet. Below is a leaked copy of the cover art for the new arrival:

Along the Way, Yesterday's Dust

We hope you enjoy this vintage set. Wet Note can now report that the vaults are pretty much empty, as we have brought most of the previously unreleased material into the light of day and the woofers and tweeters of speakers.

Wet Note is happy to report that although not yet fully operational, we remain extant, and ecstatic about recent releases and the possibility of more to come from our stable of great Wet-type bands.
