3/7/09: Eric Harrison was the lone Weymouth wrestler competing at New Englands but he did not disappoint. Eric placed 6th and his the first Weymouth wrestler to place at New Englands since Andrew Keefe in 2005. Eric started his tournament with a 19-5 technical fall over Maine State Champion, Brandon Jonaitis. Eric then lost a hard fought 6-2 decision to Connecticut State Champion, Joe Sargenti. Eric then came underneath and teched Vermont 3, beat Vermont State Champion, Josh Kernan 11-9, Maine State Champion, Ernie Matthews 6-2, and Connecticut State Finalist, Kevin Moss 8-5. Eric then lost to the eventual 3rd place finisher, Chris DeLuca, 3-1. For 5th Eric lost to the New Hampshire State Champion, Dave Clemens 12-2.
3/1/09: Weymouth had only 2 wrestlers qualify for the All-State Championships, with both wrestlers giving a strong performance. Eric Harrison was Weymouth's only placewinner. Eric beat the wrestler who finished 3rd in Division 3 in his first match and won 16-9. In the quarterfinals Eric lost to the eventual champion 7-5. Eric came underneath and beat the Division 3 State Champion 13-5 and then the wrestler who placed 4th in Division 2, 11-3. Eric then faced Jordan Michelson from Needham in the consolation semifinals. This was the 5th time they have wrestled this season with Eric winning the 4 previous matches, Eric lost 1-0. Eric then lost his 6th place match 3-1 to Jerry Joubert of Framingham. By placing 6th, Eric advances to the New England Championship next week. Danny Murphy was Weymouth's other qualifier. Danny beat the the wrestler who finished 6th in Division 2 1st round, and lost to the eventual champion 7-1 in his next match. Danny came underneath and beat the wrestler who placed 6th in Division 3, 18-5, had an injury default against the Nashoba wrestler and then beat the Division 3 State Finalist, who had previously beaten Danny. In the match to place Danny lost to the eventual 3rd place finisher, by a score of 3-0.
2/22/09: Weymouth competed at the Division 1 State Tournament, held at Springfield Central High School. Pete Gulino, Steve Connolly, Robbie Lynch, Eric Harrison, Jesse Toomey, Patrick Murphy, and Danny Murphy all qualified competed with JC Lazzaro and Mitch Temple making it into the tournament as alternates. Eric Harrison had a great tournament, losing to the #1 seed and eventual champion 3-0 in the quarterfinals and wrestling all the way back for 3rd, avenging an early season loss in the consolation semifinals. Danny Murphy was Weymouth's only other placewinner, reaching 5th place. Danny lost to the eventual champion in the quarterfinals, who he had beat earlier in the year. Danny's only other loss came from the #1 seed in the consolation semifinals. Other Weymouth wrestlers who won matches were, Pete Gulino (1-2), JC Lazzaro (1-2), and Jesse Toomey (1-2). Weymouth as a team finished 19th with 33 points.
2/18/09: Weymouth lost to Plymouth South in the Semifinals of the Division 1 South Sectional Team Tournament by a score of 43-19.
2/14/09: Weymouth hosted the Division 1 South Sectionals in their home gym. Weymouth placed 13 out of 14 wrestlers, had 3 wrestlers make the finals, and 1 wrestler become champion. Danny Murphy was Weymouth's lone champion, defeating New Bedford's Zach Chandanais in overtime. Eric Harrison was one of Weymouth's other finalists, losing to B-R's Roy Marshall by a 9-4 decision. Eric previously beat Marshall in their only meeting before Sectionals. Pete Gulino was Weymouth's 3rd finalist losing to New Bedford's Jon Costa in the finals, Pete avenged an early season loss in the semifinals to make it to the finals. Steve Connolly, placed 3rd, and for the 2nd straight season qualified for Division 1 States. Other wrestlers who qualified for States were, Robbie Lynch (4th), Jesse Toomey (4th), and Patrick Murphy (3rd). Alternates for the State Tournament are Steven Hall (5th), JC Lazzaro (5th), and Mitch Temple. Johnny Doherty (6th), Steven Bulter (6th), and Dylan Colarusso (6th), were Weymouth's other placewinners. Weymouth placed 3rd as a team with 194.5 points, which qualifies them for the Division 1 South Sectional Team Tournament, where they will wrestle 2nd place finisher, Plymouth South in the Semifinals.
1/30/09: Congratulations to Eric Harrison on his 100th career win against Whitman-Hanson's James Peterson at 140 pounds with a 12-3 major decision. Eric is having a great season with a record of 27-4. This season Eric has won the Whitman-Hanson, Cumberland RI, and Weymouth Tournaments, along with placing 4th at the prestigious Lowell Holiday Tournament.
