The group first started around a young ambitious Beyonce. Her family encouraged her with her talent for singing and her first group was called "Girls Tyme" was signed to record label Elektra but were dropped in 1995 before the had a chance to make an album. Beyonces Dad managed the group and was forced to sell their home in 1996 to keep them going. However with a change of name and line up came a change of luck. Destinys Child was born with a four member line up of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Robertson and LaToya Luckett.
They signed to Colombia Records in 1997 and released the million selling self titled debut the next year. In 1999 they released their second album "The Writings On The Wall" which was another smash. However tensions within the group led to bandmembers LaToya and LaTavia leaving. Two new members soon joined the group, Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Farrah left the group after just six months. The group carried on as a trio to become even more successful with the album "Survivor" in 2001 which was written and produced by Beyonce.
