Well another surprise here on the farm...one of my hens from last years hatch...hatched out 9 baby chicks...we only found 9...and only found them when the hen started making all kinds of noise at 6am...trying to protect them from the ducks...never knew ducks would eat baby chicks...go figure!
They will all be given away as soon as they're old enough...cuz I sure don't need anymore chicks..(hatched out 39 + this year..lost count after that)

Welcome to our newest farm member -
Ms.Kitty...the female cat ;O)
My brother lives on the river and she was one of many critters thrown out as gator bait...She looks young but has recently had kittens as she is still producing milk..
(my brother found no signs of any kittens along the river)
She is the sweetest little bobtail cat and we hope she hangs around for a long time as our newest "barn cat"....even tho she thinks she should be a house cat ;O)
Sadly we lost Rocky to pneumonia on 8/21/05
8/21/05
Gotta love these sweet surprises!
Looks like one of my (incubator hatched) 2 yr old hens has gone broody on us...and hatched herself out one tiny little Dominecker chick..from the looks of it's feathers it's a few days old..we put them in the chicken pen hoping to keep the chick safe from the dogs and cats..,but mama hen had other plans...ah well - mama knows best...so roam free they will..  :O)
UPDATE: 8/21/05
All 9 chicks are still alive...they are now in a pen on the ground and they're loving it!

We welcome our newest arrival...courtesy of hurricane Katrina...
our neighbors found him under their doorsteps after the storm passed..
a baby squirrel...we have given him the name Duke and we estimate his age at about 34 days old...he opened his eyes a few days after we got him and from everything we've read they open their eyes at 36 days..he has been taking the bottle of goat milk and is doing great! He's such a cutie..we hope to raise him until he is old enough to release back into the wild..
MS Kitty disappeared shortly after hurricane Katrina :O(  9/6/05 -
All our chicks survived Hurricane Katrina, but all disappeared the very next day as their chicken pen was destroyed by the hurricane :O( - 8/30/05
9/2/05
Welcome more orphans thanks to hurricane Katrina..two female squirrels who have been given the names Camile & Katrina..these are older and already able to eat feed..not sure of their ages but the tails are already "puffy"..
Sadly Camile died on 9/8/05 from unknown causes
and Katrina found a new home at another neighbor - Matt's - home..the same day..we sent goat milk with her and so far she's doing great!

More surprises!
One of our Rhode Island Red hens popped up with
a single Dominecker chick at her side.
So now we add another knotch in our new arrivals belt!
Mama hen seems to be taking excellent care of the chick
so they'll roam free with the rest...

9/13/05 The chick has disappeared :O(
9/18/05 Last 3 Piglets SOLD!!
9/28/05
Our neighbors bought a trained pet pig...with the intentions of butchering him, but the piglet never would grow so they gave up and brought him to us.
We have named him
Ham Hock..his tail has been docked & he appears to have been cut...as he has a scar..but as far as I can tell, he is still intact.
His right eye is blue..I'm thinking he was inbred..from all the things wrong..
When he came to us his bones were in such bad shape that one tiny nudge from our sow Eeore and he was crippled for a week..we wrapped the leg & let him lay around for 7 days...until he could walk again. His hooves are in bad shape (overgrown) & he was skinny even tho they say they fed him 5 gallons a day. We wormed him, treated him for cocci, gave him some oral iron/copper,  a Vit B Complex  shot & a Penn G  shot just incase.
These pics were taken 2 weeks after we got him..he's too sweet!
10/6/05
Sadly my baby...
Wein Wein died today :O(
Click on his name to go to his "MEMORY"  page

Our neighbors raise fighting roosters & are still moving them all to their new place next to us...they brought us a rooster & a hen they no longer wanted. The hen flew off & hid in a tree, but the rooster isn't shy one bit and will fit in perfectly..even tho I already have 9 other roosters~

Wohooo Happy Halloween to me....FINALLY found me a Broad Breasted Bronze Gobbler to go with my lonely Broad Breasted Bronze Hen..she's been without a mate for over a year!
I paid $25 for him and he's a great lookin bird. The guy I bought him from had tons more Bronze Turkeys plus Guineas & all kinds of exotic chickens..if any of you are interested in his birds give Mr.& Mrs. Ezell a call @601-508-3925
I was VERY impressed with how healthy his animals were! Not to mention they were hit pretty hard by Katrina and I'm sure they could use the business ;O)
11/19/05
Rose kidded with a single
Tri-Colored buckling
(WILLOW*BLU JB's BIG BEN)
He's gorgeous, huge, & very healthy.
He has been left on his Dam until weined or sold.
He is a purebred Nubian and will be left intact in order to carry on his dam's udder genes ;O)
Just look at that udder and that's with him nursing her!
Cherokee is missing as of 11/13/05
11/21/05
Lookie lookie what we found at 6am this morning..Looks like a male chow mix..
he showed up along side a male Rotweiler who went on a killing spree
with my chickens, ducks, & turkeys..
The Rot has to go but this lil fella (if not claimed) may just hang around.
He's shown here with Jeni..she already has him named
Rosco, found him a collar & tiny leash, and took him walking..she says he seems to mind very nicely..We will see...

Special thanks to Sheila Lee of JUST4GOATS for giving us "Hope".
She's a 50% papered Boer doe. She was wild when we brought her home, but has calmed down quite a bit in the last few hours..thinking she loves human kids!
Don't have too many details on her yet, but will post them when I do :O)
