Vegetarianism

This essay was written to serve as an overview and introduction to Vegetarianism. There are a variety of "styles" of vegetarianism. Here are a few:

Veganism (Vegans) - Eat NO animal products of any kind including eggs, dairy, including milk/cheese/milk by-products and derivatives. Some vegans also avoid honey.

Lacto-vegetarians - Eat NO meat including all mammal meat, seafood and shellfish however they do consume dairy products.

Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians - NO meat including mammal meat, seafood and shellfish however they do consume dairy products and eggs.

These are the top three forms of vegetarianism however there are several other forms as well. A few are listed here which could be classified as Semi-Vegetarianism such as:

Peco/Pollo vegetarians - Consume fish possible shellfish. NO other meat.

Lacto-Ovo-Pesco Eat NO mammal meat such as beef, lamb, pork etc. however they do consume seafood, poultry, dairy products and eggs. (It is my opinion that with this one we are getting some distance from the heart of vegetarianism.)

My life as a Vegetarian:

I consider myself a Peco-Vegan. I consume NO meat of any kind (except shellfish) & NO milk or cheese. I substitue soymilk for milk (Vanilla flavor is my favorite), veggie cheese for cheese etc. I however don't avoid Caseinate (a derivative of milk) it's in the non-dairy creamer I use in my coffee. Also, white sugar is made using bone char and rarely I do use organic sugar. Pure vegans will avoid both of these food items. A vegetarian diet is satisfying and offers a wide variety of heathly delicious alternatives which you can obtain at your local grocery store. Personally, I didn't choose vegetarianism for the health aspect though this has proved to be a wonderful bonus. I'm vegan primarily because I'm opposed to the inhumane slaughter of innocent animals, the deplorable conditions of egg factory farms, and the dairy industry's atrosities. Please read on...

Be Informed:

I would encourage you to visit PETA and view the film footage they have especially the film Meet Your Meat. It will change your life! I beg you please, become informed. The vegetarian life-style saves lives; animals and ours. No more high cholestrol, lower blood pressure, less cancer. These are medically proven facts. CHOOSE LIFE!
