Chapter 10

(That same night Kevin and Kayla have parted their separate ways. Kevin went to a local bar, ordered a drink, and sat down in the back corner. A few minutes later Kayla walks in and goes up to the bar.)
Kayla: Give me a Sprite and keep ‘em coming.
Kevin: (hears a familiar voice, looks, sees it’s Kayla, and tries to hide even more so she doesn't see him) Great, of all the bars.
Bartender:  (hands her the Sprite and wipes the counter) Wanna talk about it?
Kayla:  No.
Bartender:  Ok. (Goes to serve someone else)
Kayla:  He left me…in a department store!
Bartender:  Your husband?
Kayla:  Kevy Wevy.
Bartender:  Ok then.
Kayla:  He isn’t my hubby…I wish he was…I thought he would be…but he left me in a department store!
Bartender:  So I’ve heard.
Kayla:  (looks around) Who told you?
Bartender:  You did.
Kayla:  Oh.  (Downs the Sprite, looks at the empty glass)  I told you to KEEP ‘EM COMIN!
(Bartender fills up her glass and goes to tend to other people)
Joe:  Sad story.
Kayla: (sighs) Yea.
Joe:  I’m Joe.
Kayla:  And I’m Kayla.  (Downs the Sprite and slams the glass on the bar)
Joe:  How many of those have you had?
Kayla:  Two.
Joe:  Can I buy you another?
Kayla:  Yea sure.
Joe:  What are you having?
Kayla:  Sprite on the rocks.
Joe: Heavy drinker.
Kayla: Don’t tell my friends…(looks around) they’ll kill me.
Joe:  You’re funny.
Kayla:  So I’ve been told.  Kevy always used to laugh at my jokes.  (Gets teary eyed)
Kevin:  (from his table) Wonder if I should go talk to her?
Joe:  Wanna dance?
Kayla:  Not really…just want to drown my sorrows in Sprite.
Joe:  I think you wanna dance with me.
Kayla:  I think I don’t.
Joe:  I buy you a Sprite and this is how you treat me?
Kayla:  Listen up freak…leave me alone.
Joe:  Oh…I’m the freak?  I can see why your boyfriend broke up with you.
Kayla: (throws the Sprite he bought her in his face) That wasn’t nice…you made me waste my Sprite you doodie head!
Kevin:  (from the table) She sounds like she’s in trouble.  (Gets up and slowly walks closer)
Joe: Dance…now.
Kayla:  I don’t think so.
Joe:  (grabs her arm) I think so.
Kayla:  Let go of my arm.
Joe:  Lemme think about it…nope.  (Starts to pull her to the dance floor)
Kayla:  Ouch…you’re hurting me.
Joe:  Oh, poor baby.
Kayla:  (trying to break free) No wonder you’re single…you’re a psycho.
Joe:  Oh really?  (Grabs her arm harder)
Kayla:  Damn it…that hurts…let go of me.
Kevin:  Is there a problem here?
Joe:  Go away chump.  I’m dealing with this one.
Kevin:  She looks like she doesn’t want to deal with you.
Joe:  Stupid snot doesn’t know what she wants.
Kayla:  (trying to break free) Yes I do.
Kevin:  And what would that be?
Kayla:  FOR YOU TO BEAT THIS PUNKS ASS KEVIN!
Kevin:  My mama always told me to do what a lady asks.  (Punches Joe in the face)  Don’t you ever think about touching my girlfriend again…got it?
(Joe gets up and runs away, Kayla starts to cry, and runs to Kevin)
Kevin:  (hugs Kayla and looks down at her) You ok?
Kayla:  Now I am.
Kevin:  I’m sorry about before.
Kayla:  (pulling away from Kevin and looking at him) I’m sorry for being so difficult.
Kevin:  Come on…let’s get out of here…the sunset is really pretty outside.
Kayla:  Okie dokie hokie pokie.
(Kevin and Kayla walk past the bar, Kayla thanks the bartender for listening to her, and they leave…arm in arm)
