In 2000, I painted a mural at the local library that I was working at. The children's section was moved to the basement which was rather drab and dreary and needed something to liven it up.

The mural consists of a landscape inhabited by various fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters. The mural begins with the pot at the end of the rainbow which is full of books. A leprechaun is reading a book of fairy tales while guarding his treasure. Some of the other characters in the mural include Cinderella, Bo Peep, the Gingerbread man, the Billy Goats Gruff, the frog prince, and Puss in boots who also doubles as the Cat and the fiddle.

Also in the mural, is the life size unicorn who occupies the door to the elevator equipment room. The arch under which she stands was especially designed to hide said door. The unicorn became nick named "Baby" by myself and the library staff becouse of my particular attachment to this part of the mural.
Here is the children's section carpeted and with the books moved in. I also painted the two brick columns as a pine tree and Jack's bean stalk.

I painted a window in an alcove in order to create the illusion of space for this very closed in basement. The curtans and the table are real, everything else is painted. The cat is based on one of the many cats I have owned in my life. The scenery is typical of the Northeast Texas region.
