Define Your Faith |

Fidelity. An exact adherence. Other words like trust: a firm reliance upon a person or thing; or something committed to the care of another, and loyalty: steadfast allegiance to a person, ideal, cause, or duty. Which came first…need or faith? Need. Without need there wouldn't be faith. It doesn't matter. If you believe, the need will be met. Not necessarily in the way you want, but it will be met. Experience teaches me that faith in the Divine is never misplaced. I have always had exactly what I needed, when I needed it. Most of the time it is not what I wanted. So, where did I begin? When I was at my lowest I had to humble myself and ask for help. I had to be willing to accept the help and do what others requested of me. I had to be willing to let go of old ideas, resentments, fears, and actions. I had to embrace honesty. I had to be willing to revisit the pain and take ownership of it so I could deal with my past. I had to give thanks for the gifts in my life, no matter how small. I had to develop an acceptance of people, places, and things. I had to learn to tolerate my mistakes and shortcomings and become willing to overcome them. I had to learn to listen to others without letting my feelings or ideas get in the way. I had to learn trust. I didn't know what to believe, for I had been lied to and abused by those closest to me. I had seen the dregs of humanity and my view of the word was based on all of my negative experience. I only trusted what I could see, feel, and knew to be true. Everything else had to be proven to me.roven For want of a better term I use God as the name of the Divine presence. I could well use Goddess, Allah, Bhudda, or any of the other Deities that come to mind. God had to put me in a place between Scylla and Chrybdis before I was willing to let Him work in my life. There was only one way between them and that was to ask for God's help. I had to risk. The foundation of my faith was laid when I reached out for help and God answered my need. My walk with God re-established itself that night and it has become give and take. God gives and I take and I give and God takes. It is not necessarily in proportion. We do not keep score. Define Your Faith (Continued) |
I said that I had no faith at one time. I had no idea how to go about getting faith. Let's take a look at the word faith. Webster defines faith as a fidelity to one's promises, a belief, trust and loyalty to religion and The Creator, a firm belief in which there is no proof, something that is believed with strong conviction. |
