Based in Bandung, Indonesia this hardcore act reminded me of Charles Bronson when I first heard their music. These guys are really good and I liked their music that’s why I decided to do an interview with them. Don’t forget to check these guys out if you’re into fast hc! So, here they are!
1.First of
all, thanks for having the time for this interview. Please introduce the band.
Can you tell us a brief history of the band? Any line-up changes?
Iblis Sardi:
Hi, were AxTx. Our current line-up is me on vocals, Stimuli play guitar, Bakteri
play drum, and Eddie play the bass. The band's history is a looonnnggggg boring
story, if i tell em, it'll killed all of your reader or put 'em to sleep. It all
started back in 98' when we were just 4 lousy losers trying as hard as we could
to cover Propagandhi. Of course we failed miserably and ended up doing shitty
tuneless pissed-of hardcore instead (as you hear on the EP), this does not
impress our first bass player Gonkeykong much, (he always try to get us into
playing this really whack Slipknot-style of metal) and as sign of protest (and
much to our pleasure) he decided to quit. We get Eddie to replace him, 'cos he
aint got nothing else to do anyway, he played the bass on our split with RSG. Of
course he's very much expendable, we're planning to get rid of him and get Ari
from Domestik Doktrin to be our new bass player, than we'll be a lot cooler!!
Not to mention someone with proper english to answer these damn in-english-interview
for us.
2.Who named the band and
what does it mean?
Iblis Sardi:
I DID!! It was all my idea!! Unfortunately it doesn't mean anything, it's just 2
words that fits together perfectly.
Stimulus Nimbus: Our singer take the full responsibility for that, the
rest of us ain't got nuthin' to do with it.
Bakteria Sonatha: Our singer did!! Frankly i think that it's a really,
really, bad name with no meaning whatsoever.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Nobody knows what it meant, our singer just suddenly
come up with it one day, saying that it's the best name a band could ever fukkin'
have!! I personally think it sucks at the time and i haven't change my mind.
3.What are
your influences? Favorite bands and bands you are currently listening to?
Iblis Sardi:
All of the god-hatin', bitch-slayin', hell-bendin', devil-worshippin' heavy
metal monsters of the 80's man!!!
Stimulus Nimbus: Definitely the almighty Discharge!! Everything that
started with the word "Dis" on 'em are always my favorites, Disgust, Disrupt,
Dis-this, Dis-that...all of 'em!! Of course it does get a little boring after
like, 12 years of repeated hearing & that's why i prefer to listen to bands like
the Long Beach Dub All Star or (early) 311 these days.
Bakteria Sonatha: Our influence? Hmmm, Link Wray's the one that made us
think "hey, lets do this kind of tuneless shit!!", so it's probably him.
Althought i have to say that AC/DC is my undisputed favorite band of all time, u
don't rock unless u listen to AC/DC!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Hip-hop!! Run DMC, 3rd Base, the Ultramagnetics,
Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, Afrikka Bambatta, Wu-Tang, and all of those
shits. I don't listen to a lot of rock music, i always thought that it's very
ego-oriented and just plain boring. Now i've been listening to a lot of local
hip-hop, but all of 'em seems to fukkin' sucks!!
4.What
inspired you to form the band?
Iblis Sardi:
Seeing Lemmy Kilmister on video when i was just an innocent-naive-little-very
cute elementary school boy, of course i sell my soul to the devil right after
that.
Stimulus Nimbus: A loooonggg boring live with nothing to do except the
most boring routines. It was really just a question of either forming a punk
band or comitting suicide.
Bakteria Sonatha: Seeing just how depressed my mum is to know that her
good-natured son love to listen to the most awfully unlistenable music
imaginable, i got this really great idea to depressed her even more by telling
her that i also played in one!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: I don't even wanna be in a band!! NOT this one
anyway!! They all made me do it, i'm innocent, I"M FUKKIN' INNOCENT I TELL
YOU!!!!
5.Who writes the songs and what are your lyrics
about?
Iblis Sardi:
I can't remember, i lost it all the morning we're supposed to go to the studio
and we have no choice but to come up with new ones quickly. It all happened so
fast that i don't remember much about it.
Stimulus Nimbus: I don't know, i mean, we have to write it like 15
minutes before we recorded it 'cos our singer stupidly "LOST" all the lyrics and
he didn't remember them. Personally i think that he never made any lyrics at
all, that bastard!!
Bakteria Sonatha: Well, we're heading to this studio to record our songs
right? And our singer said that he lost all the lyrics!! So all of us have to
write down anything we could think of and turn it into a song, it was really
dumb!! It's about whatever's in our heads at the time, it's not like we have any
time to think about 'em.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: I don't know anything about it, that was before my
time.
6.How often do you play at
gigs? Can you tell us about your first show? How did it turn out?
Iblis Sardi:
We probably only play about 10 gigs in our 6 years of existence, and 8 of 'em
-especially our first one- turn into a totaal disaster.
Stimulus Nimbus: Fukk, we don't play much!! Probably only like 10 shows
in 6 years, it's always the same story: we get on stage, make a total idiots out
of ourselves and fukked-up our set, it happened in probably all of our gigs. I
think that's the main reason why we never play, because we sucked so bad!!
Bakteria Sonatha: Probably like twice in a year or something like that,
everything always look bad after such a disastrous first gig where everyone was
doing different songs at the same time.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: I actually watch their first gig and as a friend, i
have to say that it was really, really horrible.
7.Have you played in any other country?
Iblis Sardi:
Nope
Stimulus Nimbus: No
Bakteria Sonatha: No
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: No
8.Do all
of you live in the same city? How often do you rehearse?
Iblis Sardi:
Yeah, we all live in Bandung probably just about 10 minutes from each other, but
that doesn't make us rehearse much.
Stimulus Nimbus: Now that's one very good question!! It's kind a hard to
rehearse when the rest of your band members don't seem to be interested in doing
it very much.
Bakteria Sonatha: Yeah, same city, not to far from each other. Except for
our bass player who lives in the edge of the milky way. It's great though, 'cos
sometimes we'd call him up and tell 'em that we've booked a studio to practice
like a light years away from where he live, when we realy don't....it's amazing
the way he crammed every sundanese swear word possible in a three minutes pay
phone time.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Fukk, we live in the same city and we only rehearse
like once a month. What would happen if we all live in a different city? We'll
probably ended up practicing like once every for years, one day after the world
cup final!!
9.Your EP was released by
UGLYSMOKERS, How did you get hooked with
UGLYSMOKERS?
Iblis Sardi:
Well, a friend of us knew Sham. I don't really know why he ended up realeasing
that EP there..i mean, it's a not a very good one if you ask me.
Stimulus Nimbus: I don't know the full story, but this friend of ours was
gonna trade some stuff with Sham. One of the thing he sent there was our CD,
that's all i know!! Then all of the sudden it was released over there by
Uglysmokers...of course it's cool 'cos if it didn't nobody would get to hear
it!!!
Bakteria Sonatha: Fukk, i have no idea!! I do know that it's all started
with an innocent trade between friends that live in 2 different countries.
Amazing huh??? Actually, we were hoping that Victory or RoadRunner would also be
interested in realeasing it...i don't think it'll happen anytime soon thought.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: I'm gonna be the total jackass here and say that i
don't know anything about it!! Those motherfuckers that called themselves my "bandmates"
never told me anything!!
10.When and where did you
record your EP? How’s the promotion?
Iblis Sardi: 2 years ago in a studio here in Bandung, it's really
boring to talk about that EP 'cos it's really should've been old news by now. I
mean, we don't even played those songs anymore!! (Shit! How outdated am I? -Ed.)
Stimulus Nimbus: Waayyyyy back in the year 2000, we we're supposed to do
a split with this band called Full Error, but i never heard of it again. Those
shitty songs been sitting around the house ever since and we really didn't know
what to do with it, untill we heard that a Malaysian label was interested in
releasing it. I don't know much about the promotion though.
Bakteria Sonatha: The EP's really old you know, it was all done in 2000
and was never released here in Indonesia i think. We did it live in like 45
minutes...actually we booked it for 2 hours but it took like the first 75
minutes for our goddamn bass player to finally showed up.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Shit!! Another question that i can't answer, i'm
gonna failed this int for sure.
11.About
how many copies do you think have been distributed?
Iblis Sardi:
I have absolutely no fukkin' idea!! I surely hope that it's a lot more than
what's been distributed here by us...we made 12 fukkin' copies one time, and
that's just about it!!
Stimulus Nimbus: Shit!! I don't know!! 50? 100? Really, i don't have a
clue, it's not like we've got anything to do with it, we only send like one cd-r
over there...how would i know whatever happened to it?
Bakteria Sonatha: I heard that we've sold a milion copies in a single
Tower Records on Kuala Lumpur alone!! I guess we'll be seeing better days as one
of the new breed of "hardcore" bands to takeover the whack-ass corporate
airwave, and join the line-up of the xXx soundtrack tour, standing proud with
Hatebreed and those really bad rappers in that really shitty video.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur:Awww mannn, can we NOT talk about that EP??!!
12.Any
members of the band have a side project?
Iblis Sardi:
I'm currently in the line-up of a short-haired death-metal outfit with the most
unoriginal name available: BodyCount!! Of course it's even worst than the band u
interviewed right now.
Stimulus Nimbus: I used to be, i was in a lot of bands. Unfortunately
they all played this typical Swedish "dis"-thing so i couldn't tell which song
were who's and get it all mixed up so often that i finally just quitted all of 'em!!
Bakteria Sonatha: I just joined this experimental group of percussion
player called "The Accoustic Indigenous Uprising Symphony", we do traditional
west javanese drum music with a bit of a melodic grindcore edge in it
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Owwhh puh-leeese!! Side projects? THOSE lazy bums?
Come onnn!!! No fukkin' way!!! As for me, i'm an MC for a local hip-hop group,
the Ghetto Pimps Union!!
13.How’s the scene over
there? Any problems? What other good bands & projects readers should check out?
Iblis Sardi: Oh, the local scene? Well, i don't know if there's
any "hc" scene left in here. I do know that there's been an increasing amount of
shitty glossy magazines with full-colour pictures of people with mohawks,
piercings, and tatoos on 'em. There's also an amazing amount of disco parties
being held here, and currently there's a lot more shirts and cargo pants being
sold in distro than tapes. Right now, i'm considering to jump on the hc kid-turn
to-rave-dee jay bandwagon 'cos It'll be a lot easier to get my picture printed
in all of the "cool" magazines.
Stimulus Nimbus: I don't we've ever been a part of the "scene" here,
we're not really good of being fit in with all of the "cool" kids, u know? Maybe
like 3-4 years ago, this town were filled with thousands of punk bands, now i
only heard the same few names over and over again on the bill of a gig held like
only 3 times in a year, it's so fukkin' boring!!!
Bakteria Sonatha: I don't know about the scene, it's so full of rave kids
and musicians it doesn't interest me in any way. The only bands that i'm into
right now are Domestik Doktrin, xManusia Buatanx, A Friend for Life, and ummm...well
that's just about it!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Oh boy, the obligatory "how's the scene?" question.
I don't know much about it, altought i'm quite sure that there's more clothing
labels than record labels right now, so bands are now realeasing more t-shirt
designs than new tapes. I don't know if that's bad or not, i mean, u'll look a
lot cooler wearing a band's shirt when u crash the hottest rave party in town
right? It helped to give u that sort of "cutting-edge" looks that u just
couldn't get from wearing an average R&B outfit.
14.How’s
the band right now? Any news you can tell us?
Iblis Sardi:
Bored!! We're still waiting to be takeover by a bonafide multinational
corporation and get our asses shoved with US Dollars. We've been dreaming about
it for ages now, and started to get just a little pissed off!! Come onn record
company execs, can't u assholes see just how HOT we are? We're better than those
Mudvayne and Sum 41 motherfukkers, SIGN US for fukk's sake!!!
Stimulus Nimbus: Well we're not doing anything right now, we haven't even
been seeing each other for the last 4 weeks. I don't know where's all those
morons right now, we're supposed to be preparing new shits for our next record,
and none of 'em seem to be the least interested in telling me where the hell
they are!!
Bakteria Sonatha: The band? I don't know, we haven't met each other since
like early January...so we really have nothing to do right now. We're probably
breaking up or something, nothing's ever certain with these guys.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: IF there is anything happening with this band, i'll
be the last person on this earth to find out!! That's a proof of just what a
real jerks they are.
15.What
are your views about straightedge? Any of you guys into it? What about religion?
Iblis Sardi:
It's all about fun and being cool, i mean, if it isn't fun and not cool than i
wouldn't be a part of it!! Why waste time doing MORE uncool things that just
ain't fun? I already done enough of that crap everyday by going to school. If i
want to do more stoopid shits like that, i would've get married, have kids, and
wash diapers...not be straightedge and mosh my life away, right?
Talkin' about uncool things, i believe that being into religion is also one of 'em!!
Come on, it's only a crutch man!! And as a straightedge i don't need crutches,
it's just plain dumb anyway!!
Stimulus Nimbus: SxE? Don't ever think much about it!! Everyone can make
whatever choice they fukkin' want, to me it's just no big deal...actually, i
feel a little stupid to just talk about it, 'cos i don't think that it's an
interesting topic to talk about. As for religion, well, i couldn't care less
about it either! I'm not into any religious believe right now, 'cos, u know?
None of 'em seem to interest me to take part of it...i don't know about the
others thought, never talk with 'em about this subject.
Bakteria Sonatha: I always think of straightedge as a bunch of kids with
X's on their hands, and that's just about it. Everyone's seem to make such a big
deal out of 'em and THAT'S one thing that i couldn't understand, i've lots of
friends who's into it and a lot who's not...it doesn't make any difference for
me. Frankly, i don't fukkin' care if my friend smoke or not, as long as they're
not an asshole, i'd get along just fine!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Our singer's straightedge, and his religion is Minor
Threat . I never really understand it, 'cos u know why make such a big deal of
the fact that you don't smoke or drink? U can just NOT smoke and drink without
calling yourself sxe can u? It's kinda strange, althought i don't mind it at
all...i don't care if people call themselves whatever they want, it's not my
problem. oh yeah im a religious person. my religion is hip-hop, and my saviour
is KRS-1.
16.Do you have jobs? How
do you support the bands needs?
Iblis Sardi:
Nahhh, i hate jobs...i'm still in college so i've to say that my parents are the
ones that support the band's needs.
Stimulus Nimbus: I'm a holy book salesman, i sell holy books of every
religion there is, the Bible, the Kor'an, the Vedha, all of 'em. Right now, Zen
books is selling like madd! It's not a fun job, but i got paid for it and that's
what counts. I never read any of 'em thought, and, just between u and me, i
don't think anyone should've!!
Bakteria Sonatha: I'm breeding turtles. I have ummm, i don't know how to
say it in english, aahh a turtle farm or something like that, u know where u
keep turtles, feed 'em, breed em, look after their children and then sell 'em...how
do u call that in english?
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: I'm still studying hard to win my long-delayed
philosophical degree at a local university. Sometime i make extra cash by
selling merchandise of my hip-hop band to all of those local hip-hop kids, it's
easy money !!
17.What
are you guys into when not with the band?
Iblis Sardi:
Skateboarding, making fun of my friends that has shitty jobs, worshipping satan,
and..ehm,..chasing local hardcore grrl. shit man! actually i have rid all of my
drunk punk outfit and start wearing baggy pants, agnostic front shirt,
bandanas, you know,..all as hardcore as you can be stuffs just to impressed 'em
but i guess that didn't work at all. i got a really strong feeling that all of
them playing hard to get. oh well....
Stimulus Nimbus: Studying French, learning to bake a croissant, doing
some off-the-wall experimental post-modern paintings and hopefully sell 'em to
some eccentric arty-farty old bastard that has a whole shitload of money to
spent!!
Bakteria Sonatha: Sitting in front of the computer screen, trying to pick
up girls through cyberworld , like the guy in "You've Got Mail" did. By the way,
that movie really sucks!! Although i must confess that it made me realize that
it's a lot easier to find girls in chat rooms than it is inside a Taste of Flesh
circle pits!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Attending philosophy discussions/debates, play chess
with my girlfriend's dad, and reading a lot of Kierkegaard in an attempt to find
out what's the most important thing to look for in a man's whole existance.
18.Any
future plans? Stuff to promote?
Iblis Sardi:
Ah, same old-same old, drink some juice and pretending that we're a fukkin'
band. We're planning to release a new album by the way, not that anybody out
there would care!! But u know, it's one of those self-oriented answers punk
bands are known to have.
Stimulus Nimbus: I'd like to say we're planning to do another EP, but
what i'd REALLY love to see is for us to fukkin' REHEARSE guys!!!
Bakteria Sonatha: Released new songs, fukked-up more shows, printed some
new shirts, and hopefully win some girls in the process.
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: We got like 15 new songs right now, so it'll
probably ended up on a new EP or split or something like that. But like i said
throughout this interview, i don't know much about it..hahaha. Well, i'm pretty
sure that we're gonna released something, i mean, that's all we do!! I'll keep u
posted if u like.
19.Thanks guys for the
time you spent for this interview!! Any last words?
Good luck!!
Iblis
Sardi: Are u
the guy those losers of that really shitty band "The Calling" talked about on
their hit song? (Hahaha!! those pussies are singin about a girl!! –Adrian.)
Well, thanxxx a lot pal, sorry about all the grammatical disorders!!!
Stimulus Nimbus: Thanks a lot, see ya!!
Bakteria Sonatha: No problem, thanks!!
Kamerad Eddie Syuur: Thanks, hope to hear from u again!!!
