What I like about this “outfit” is it can be worn as medieval clothing anytime. This is a simple “outfit”: a sleeveless dress opened on both sides worn over a simpler dress. This is what we call a cotte (under dress) and a surcot (over dress). I choose black as a colour for the surcot because it is more convenient.

Pattern

For the cotte, I used McCall’s 8937. Easy to do and does not require to be laced in the back. For the surcot, I use McCall’s 3653 view B. I only used one piece on the side and not 2 like the pattern.

Fabric

For the cotte, I choose a sky blue Indian cotton. Not expensive, light which mean not too hot for the summer period and comfortable to be worn at night. The surcot is made of black marbella linen, a kind of linen which is not itchy.

Advice

No zipper and no laced dress means to be carefull with the size. Indian cotton is light but has the disavantage of being transparent.
Notice the detail in the lacing: it's the same pattern as the original!
