The loch

Loch Ness is in the North of Scotland and is one of three lochs which are all linked together. This is the Caledonian Canal. These lochs were created because of a fault line which is called the Great Glen.  This divides Scotland  from Fort William to Inverness.

Facts:
Length = 23 miles
Width = 1 Mile
Depth = 600 ft

The loch runs on a straight line 60 miles along the Great Glen Fault. Loch Ness is one of many places in Scotland that has earthquakes as the fault line is continuously moving.
10,000 years ago the Great Glen was filled with a glacier from the ICE AGE and has therefore made the loch be 600 ft below sea level.  There are many caves surrounding the loch big enough to hold "Nessie"
The loch then drains into River Ness and then flows into Moray Firth.
