Crimson Screams: An Interview with Amy Grech
Louise: Tell us about your novel THE ART OF DECEPTION.  Where did the idea for this story come from?

Amy: The Art of Deception is a pre 9/11 novel, in that most of the action take place in New York City’s World Trade Center.  I wanted to experiment with the perils of relationships and the disastrous outcome greed brings.

Here’s a blurb from the back of the book:

New York City can be cruel but not nearly as mean as Russell Silverburg’s former employee, Joan Clifton.  After he raped her, she fled to California to create Share Well Industries, a company he is profitably investing his clients' money in.

Russell is shocked when Share Well Industries' stock plummets.  After some fact checking, he discovers that the corporation is a scam Joan devised to get even?  A financial rape that will leave Russell defenseless and vulnerable.

Louise: As a writer of horror and suspense fiction, what makes a great horror/suspense novel for you?  What really pulls you into a book and holds you fast until you finish that last page?

Amy: Rich characterization is a must!  I also enjoy novels that put the reader in a time and place that piques my interest and leaves me feeling uneasy.

Louise: You also create Web sites through your company, Crimson Screams Productions.  How did you get involved in web design?

Amy: After I graduated from Ithaca College with a BA in English/Writing, I found it nearly impossible to get full-time work as an Editorial Assistant or a Writer, so I worked as an Administrative Assistant and was deathly bored.   Doing the same thing every day gets very tedious very quickly.  I took a basic six-week Web Design class at the New School University at New York City.  I love Web Design because no two projects are alike.  They’re all very exciting and rewarding.  You can view my portfolio here:

Louise: Of the many short stories you have written which is your favorite and why?

Amy: "Apple of My Eye" because it's set in New York City in the East Village, Alphabet City, to be precise, where every avenue tells a tragic tale: A is for Alert. B is for beware. C is for Caution. D is for Death. It's a twisted, depraved story that's still looking for a home…

Louise: Have you ever noticed any reoccurring themes coming up in your work that surprised you?

Amy: A lot of my stories deal with abuse in my forms.  These stories are extreme and shocking, but they’re the kind that need to be told.

Louise: Your chapbook Cold Comfort is now available from Naked Snake Press.  Could you give our readers a brief synopsis of this tale?

Amy: Two stories about love and betrayal.

“Cold Comfort:” A chance encounter becomes an unlikely obsession.

“Prevention:” Murderous twins help their dear mother into and out of trouble.
